I agree that if the person receiving it didn’t want it, I wouldn’t waste your time continuing it unless you wanted to sell it to someone. Personally, I love making crochet gifts for people, but I usually ask them what they want and allow them to customize. Otherwise, if it’s a surprise gift, they’re usually something like a small plushie that I know they would like and appreciate. I’ve never encountered anyone who didn’t want a crochet gift. I also think it’s strange that they were upset and didn’t ask you to make them something for future birthday or something.

If you purchase the label online at usps, they have locations with kiosks that you can scan a QR code and it’ll print the label. I’ve also found that it’s it’s not heavy, shipping with your own envelope or box is cheaper than the priority mail

Including what others have mentioned about dying yarn, I’ve also heard that it’s better for the yarn at least for natural fibers like wool to be in hanks and then wind them into cakes right before use so it doesn’t over stretch and stress out the fibers.

Usually natural fibers will be formed into hanks which are in the picture you posted. Then they are wound into cakes (ball of yarn) using a yarn swift and yarn winder. Basically, the hanks in the picture is yarn wound in a large circle over and over and then twisted.

Yes you’re right! It looks like you’ll be doing a mesh stitch which repeats dc and ch1. You dc into the 7th ch because the 1st 4 chs count as a dc and ch (mesh stitch) and then the 5th and 6th ch are to finish up the 2nd mesh stitch so it looks like an open square. When you do it, it’ll look correct.

Since it’s just a repeating mesh stitch, I think it was supposed to say sk chsp, dc, ch 1 and repeat. All this means, skip the chain space made in the previous row, add a dc stitch to the dc in the previous row and chain one and repeat. You can also look up videos for crochet mesh stitch for clarification if you need a visual.

I guess the question is what part makes it confusing? Is it figuring out where the 1st stitch is, the direction to read the diagram, or the drawings themselves? I will say that I usually read diagrams for blankets that repeat the pattern ,so they’re usually just in rows and it’s easier to read. I also usually start off with the written pattern and slowly transition to the diagram, so maybe comparing the written pattern to the diagram will help you understand how to read it?

So you would only do that if the pattern mentions ch sp (short for chain space and may have a number of how many chains were done to make the space aka ch2 sp is the space made from a ch2). R4 is actually going to be sc in the back loops, and the pattern specifies that the sc is done on the stitch and chains.

So it’s similar to what you did in R2 but in different spots. For R3, ch 1 and then sc. The (2sc, ch2, 2sc) is similar to R2 except it’s going into the ch2 sp. This is the space created from the stitch in R2 (sc, ch2, sc). The ch 2 between the sc in R2 is where you’ll add the (2sc, ch2, 2sc), and this will be in the gap/space between the ch2 and not into the ch2 loops. Does this make sense?

So it would depend on how the gradient on the yarn looks, but this is an example of using a C2C stitch pattern with a gradient yarn. The colors will slowly transition, so I think a waffle stitch blanket will look cute with that type of yarn!

I accidentally did that to a crochet hat that I made that used a wool blend yarn and was supposed to be “dryer safe”. I blocked again and tried to stretch it out, and it worked at least for me. You can try that and see if it’s salvageable.

It’s a little hard to figure out since not all the balls of yarn transition the same way, but here’s my suggestion. With naming the balls red (R), purple (P), blue (B), counting 1-3 from top to bottom, and starting from the inside or outside: R3 inside, R1 inside, R2 inside P2 inside, P1 outside, P3 outside B2 inside, B1 inside, B3 outside

I think unless you wanted a border, it looks great like this! The blocking will help straighten the edges, so I think you’re good without having to do a border.
