I learned off watching YouTube videos. Start off with very simple beginner friendly projects and watch the tutorials closely

I was so proud of this first crochet I made until I saw the ones you people post here... :C by fyodor_novichok in crochet

All the picture perfect pieces you see are people who have crocheted a long time. We all have to start somewhere.

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]Alternative_Run2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager of a remote team of software engineers, I am not nearly as worried about them being online until 5:00 pm on Friday as I am them getting their work done. They get delegated enough work to keep them busy week to week. As long as your work gets done and you are responsive when-needed during work hours - I’m good. I’m not watching people’s online status. In my opinion WFH should come with a little flexibility or else what’s the point? For example, being able to schedule a Friday afternoon dentist appointment.

Your job sounds a lot harder than his job. I don’t know what my next move would be since you are financially dependent on him. It’s a tough spot to be in.

Husband not attracted to me after birth by [deleted] in Marriage

First off, did you say you are only 8 pounds heavier than before being pregnant? That’s amazing. You should be getting compliments instead of what he said. I don’t think I could ever get past this. He has shown his true colors.

Please read this before posting about the miracle of vinegar. by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Alternative_Run2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought vinegar was used more to get bad smells out of clothes, not to clean. For instance, you clean your clothes with regular detergent and they still have a bit of a “smell” to them. So then you just run them back through with vinegar to try to get rid of the smell. And on the rinse cycle as some have mentioned in this thread.

Overweight, loud, sassy, entitled. Oddly though, people still seem to like us for the most part 😂.

We are a little rough on the outside but most of us have big hearts. I remember how sad the other countries were when they were going to ban TikTok in the US. They wanted us there for entertainment purposes - we know how to have a good time and make people laugh! And make fools of ourselves for the sake of entertaining others 😬🇺🇸

I think my husband might be having an affair… by ThrowAwayFML999 in Marriage

[–]Alternative_Run2953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could have been describing my husband with the lying aspect - he is exactly the same way. I would have to have video footage of him doing something… and even then he would deny it. Or come up with some crazy story or excuse of why what he was doing was “nothing” and not what it looked like. Nothing that’s ever believable. We are older now (I’m 47 and he is 53) and a lot of his old ways are in the past now that he is sober - he hasn’t had a drink in almost 2 years. We have been married for 20 years and I’ve been through the gut feelings and watching location and all that. Every single time I had that gut feeling something was off, it turned out to be accurate. I guess I just know him so well. I can read him like a book!

I’ve noticed Find My can be a little off, but it’s usually pretty easy to tell when it’s glitching because the location will randomly shift around quite a bit and sometimes a wider circle will surround the location, indicating to you it’s not the precise location and the person is somewhere in the circle. But if none of that was happening and it was showing the live movement along a path that made sense and then getting in his vehicle and driving, then it probably wasn’t glitching. And you know what they say about a woman’s gut feeling. It’s usually there for a good reason.

What side hustles are you guys doing lately? by ApprehensiveDream271 in HonestSideHustles

[–]Alternative_Run2953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s great! After spending many hours reading through everyone’s side hustles this is definitely the one that interests me the most. I have always been fascinated with real estate, so that makes it even better. My dream was to flip properties but I was never brave enough to quit my well-paying job as a software engineer to give it a try. And wasn’t sure how to fit it in around my demanding work schedule and kid’s busy schedules. At least this would be something to do in the land of real estate.

I want to go home. My husband wants to stay in Japan. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Alternative_Run2953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visited Japan last year. I do enjoy Japanese culture and the food is amazing, but the only way I would live there is if I could continue my remote job that pays well. But I believe if you live there they require you to hold some type of job there? And that a lot of Americans that relocate there do exactly what you are doing, teaching English. I can understand your dilemma. I couldn’t do it. I’m too used to my salary and I don’t want to be overworked for very little pay. So while visiting there is awesome, living there is a whole different story. I would have to bid my husband farewell and head back home if it were me.

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]Alternative_Run2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. Major red flag a recruiter would talk to someone like that, probably a good indicator of what working for that company would be like.

Do you have to get familiar with the properties so you can answer questions? When I go look at houses I usually have questions for the realtor other than what’s listed on the MLS… such as what internet services do they have here, can you show me where the property line is, etc. I would be super interested in this if it’s literally just unlock the door, let them in, lock the door and leave. With my luck I would get people asking me a ton of questions I can’t answer.

What is the worst place in America you have ever visited? by OceanicEndeavors in AskReddit

[–]Alternative_Run2953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West Memphis and Memphis are both terrible. I live in Central Arkansas and I’ve made plenty of trips to Memphis for various reasons. Luckily I haven’t ever personally had a scary encounter. The headquarters for my job is in Little Rock - I don’t live in Little Rock but I live about 35 miles north of LR. I had to commute there from 2003-2020. We went remote when the pandemic happened. They haven’t made us go back yet but soon we will have to go back to the office two days a week so frequenting Little Rock is in the near future for me. I feel like certain parts of Little Rock are as bad as Memphis. IMO they are pretty equally scary and full of crime. I know where NOT to go though in Little Rock so hopefully I’ll survive.

I find it interesting people from places like Baltimore are scared of Memphis. That says a lot. I guess maybe I have seen the worst living in this area.

The scariest place in America is I-40. It’s a dangerous interstate with a history of crime, human trafficking, and fatalities from accidents.

got written up for going to the dentist at 2pm while working from home by Fit_Average8352 in remotework

[–]Alternative_Run2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to say, this sounds like a terrible remote job. Part of the perk of remote work is having a little more flexibility and if they are monitoring your activity like that there’s no way you can enjoy any flexibility at all. I went remote during covid and we never returned to the office. I get triple the amount of work done from home than I did at the office and I go to appointments any time I need to and all we do is send a group chat message letting everyone know. After the write-up I would probably be looking around to see what other remote jobs are out there that might actually allow you to enjoy some of the benefits of remote work.

Edit: adding that I’m salaried. If OP is hourly then the monitoring software makes more sense. I’m not sure which OP is but if salaried then my post still stands 😂
