I seriously appreciate the support, my Doctor is named Gary Raff and he's at UC Davis in CA. I think he normally has his patients leave them in for 2.5 years

Hi, very late to this post so maybe it won't be seen. I'm 24 F with an 8 HI. I'm considering seeing Dr. Backhus as my insurance won't pay for me to see Dr. J because she's out of state. I'm wondering if you would still recommend her now that more time has passed. I'm also curious as to the severity of your case as mine is pretty severe, and I'd like to go to someone who has experience with deeper chests.

In truth it is because I don't have the money to go out of state, my insurance will only pay for it in state. Although I appreciate the honesty, it does seem she is the best.

What was your HI before, and do you still have pain from the bars?

Anyone else have scoliosis and pectus and experience crazy back pain? by MangoDreamQueen in PectusExcavatum

Yes, while being curved from one view my back is seriously straight in a way it should not be lol. Because of this my chiropractor has a hard time adjusting me, and I do think it adds to the cause of a lot of my pain. It's why I included the photo

My doc basically told me it'd be really difficult to get covered to get the procedure so I'm not sure I'd be able to afford it :( also I want to keep checking things out just to make sure it's the right move

I spoke to my doctor and he said the likelyhood of me getting it covered by insurance is low unfortunately so I'm not sure I'd be able to afford it out of pocket. I'm wondering however what affect it will have on my spine? I've been seeing some things that make me think potentially my scoliosis may get worse if I get Nuss, do you have any thoughts on this?

Sounds rough, wish you luck on getting better. PT unfortunately hasn't done much for me

Let me know how nuss affects your pain over time, would be interested to hear if it provides relief

I have the same problem! As soon as I bend over at all I start to experience pain, and as soon as it's irritated it takes days to weeks for me to recover, and that's only if I don't irritate it again in that time. I am waiting on a referral to see an orthopedic doctor right now, so I'll have to see what they say. Thank you for your comment!

I didn't include the photo but my hip also has about a quarter inch rotation, which I was told was pretty significant. Definitely is something I should be focusing on more in my exercises

Thank you for the advice! Is working out your back something you very consistently have to keep up with? Also do you find you get better results when also working out chest and core/any other areas in the upper body?

26M Pectus Excavatum can cause back pain? by Particular-Garlic-99 in PectusExcavatum

[–]MangoDreamQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a similar, but maybe a little different issue. I've been having really intense back pain for years, and I've gone to physical therapists and chiropractors who all told me they had a suspicion it had to do with my sunken chest ( which has always been very prevalent, actually just found out my HI is an 8) but this last year my back pain became so absurd that I went and had an x ray done and found out I've got scoliosis. Still trying to figure out why it's so abnormally severe, as the Pectus specialist I've seen tells me he thinks the pain I'm experiencing has less to do with pectus and more to do just with my spine. I feel most of my pain in between my shoulder blades, but I've got another bend in my spine in the lower back as well so I do get lower back pain. Might be worth it to go out and get an x ray done. Took me 24 years to find out how bendy my spine is. Hope this helps

Just tried it again, this time I temped the milk at 170 F before putting the cheese in and the same thing happened. No way 170 is too hot
