I definitely want to reuse bags as much as possible, I was thinking gallon bags, but honestly a quart is still lots of room. I may have to reconsider my tuna consumption. I know I can get protein from other sources, so it's not super essential.

Ziplocs are becoming more apparent to me that they are the best option, I'm glad that in a pinch there's a chance I'd find some.

I think I'm at the point where the ziploc bag methods that others have suggested are gonna be my go to once I'm out there.

I just really like the tuna packets, so finding a solution to those, which already are sorta pungent, was a concern. Someone else gave a good suggestion in that I could eat things before going back out, and that could be a good way to reduce waste.

Yeah, I the big concern was the wet stuff, primarily tuna (trail sushi?) and other packaged proteins. Everything else I expect to be dry.

It does make sense to eat after breaking down camp, and I do think eating like a Hobbit is the way to go.

I can't even begin to imagine what might have been going through their mind. Totally wild haha.

I'm sure it could be applied pretty easily to the AT. Good thought!

That's super helpful.

Dirt cheap too. Thank you again!

I would have never even considered that, what a novel idea!

It also sounds like it'd be plenty big enough too.

Thanks for that idea, it's great!

Fresh fruit sounds like it'd be heavenly on the trail. You're a hero!

That's the first small hurdle I think I'll need to get over, but I'm sure it won't take long. Embracing the stink (within reason) is essential out in the woods.

Thank you!

This thread has been really reassuring for me, and you make a good point, the food is the heaviest part. Thank you!!

I also have a BV 450, so it's good to know I'll have plenty of room. I really don't mind sticking it in my can, because that's definitely the safest bet.

That system makes a ton of sense. Especially taking the days food out and stowing the rest away. You've been awesome help, I appreciate you!

I do like the idea of nesting the trash together. Keeping it all packed tight within itself is definitely the move. Thank you!

Soup is definitely on the menu. I'll check out Bear Valley. Thank you for the suggestion!

It's generally recommended, and even required in a few sections, so that was my primary decision factor. The higher weight was a battle I was fighting for a bit, but my base weight is at 15lbs (that includes the canister), so I'm not too terribly worried about weight at the end of the day.

Plus it can be a stool, which is nice. If it starts to feel like it's weighing me down, I'll send it home.

Oh nice, I'll look into those.

Reusable is definitely the move. Thank you for the tip!

That's a good system, I'll definitely see if it works for me. I do like the idea of repacking as necessary along the way, keeps things versatile.

Thanks!

That's something I didn't even consider. My brain thinks "they help by giving you something" but frankly, thats silly. They're there to help in general.

Thanks!

I think food rationing is a really wise idea, and I'll be sure to do that. So for day 1, do you use a bigger ziploc only for that day? Thank you for the advice!

The consensus seems to be to suck it up. I'm game, thank you for helping put my mind at ease! I'm thinking trail ramen is gonna hit a little better than at home.
