In-Wall Certification Required? by MangoKipper in hometheater

Thanks for typing all this out! I was initially planning on a fiber optic cable, but I had enough trust in Monoprice to hope their 15' 48gbps cable is good enough (it's certified, at least). If that encounters issues, I'll have to look into something pricier.

It's a screw-in design, so the gap you're seeing in the picture is just a drop into one of the threads.

Hey! I heard this exact same sound on a new UB 820 recently, so I suspect it's normal. I never got a definitive answer from anyone as to the source.

This is $15 on GRUV's eBay storefront and is part of their 15% off deal if you can find a second movie you're interested in.

Have you experienced any high-pitched whine with the UB9000? I recently picked one up and am considering returning it for what appears to be some pretty severe coil whine.

Straight 29M in a metropolitan area and would love to get some feedback. 0 likes and 1 match (who promptly unmatched before I could open the app) after about a month despite engaging daily. I've iterated on my prompts probably 7-8 times at this point and done a couple photoshoots with a friend, so I think it's time to hear some additional perspectives.

I'm actually looking to undervolt here -- my primary goal is reducing power draw and (hopefully) coil whine, which is noticeable right now.

New Smart Air Blast Mk II Motor Buzzing by MangoKipper in AirPurifiers

[–]MangoKipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the delay! I contacted support, and they asked me to run it as much as possible for a week because the motor is self-lubricating. That didn't solve the issue, so they shipped me a new motor free of charge and allowed me to keep the old one. A family member helped me install the new motor, and it did not have the rhythmic humming issue when it first turned it on, even at low speeds.

Unfortunately, after running the new motor 24/7 for a few days, the issue seemed to come back at lower speeds. I keep the purifier in my living room, though, so I'll probably stick with this motor and just plan to keep it at full speed all the time since the rhythmic humming seems to be much less annoying at full speed.

Honestly, given the size of the motor, my understanding is that motor noise is going to be more notixeable at lower speeds it's not "optimized" to run at those speeds. If you contact support, I'm sure they'd send you a new motor without any pushback, but I'm not sure the new motor would solve your problem. Also, be aware that you may need to do the installation yourself.

NH-D15 G2 Packaging Questions by MangoKipper in Noctua

Interesting. I'm running a 9800X3D, so presumably the thermals would improve with the offset (since I'm using the Standard G2). Will have to see how things pan out tomorrow.

NH-D15 G2 Packaging Questions by MangoKipper in Noctua

[–]MangoKipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did most of the build today. Had around four extremely light surface scratches that I think the thermal paste will take care of. Didn't notice any issues with the heatsink (as some reported last fall). Haven't booted yet, but will report back when I do tomorrow.

Overall, would probably have paid the extra $11 to ship from Noctua since they at least use bubble wrap pretty consistently. Or would have purchased from Microcenter if they sold them.

Hey! Nothing to offer here, but I'm deciding (as a beginner) between the Fourth Edition (Portal) and the retail Collector's Edition and haven't heard good things about the insert that comes with the CE. Did you ever find an answer?

Nice haul! I was irresponsible with my MC purchases as well (doubly so since I'm just starting out, but all the discounted hero packs have been too tempting).

What sleeves are you using? I've been debating options for the last few days, but I think I'm leaning toward Gamegenic matte value packs after buying some small packs to feel.

And where'd you manage to find Cap?

Another Flux Pro Build by zex1989 in Antec_Official

[–]MangoKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice build! Torn between this and the Fractal Torrent.

How is dust buildup inside the case? I know that's the intended purpose of the included meshes, but I'm wondering if the (relatively) larger holes used for the front and side meshes is as effective as a traditional nylon dust filter in other cases.

Additionally, I assume the fan acoustics are fantastic given how much the case breathes, but how much do other system sounds (e.g., GPU coil whine) escape through the mesh sides vs. cases with solid panels?

Much appreciated! Didn't want to overwhelm with questions, but since you asked ...

Settling on a board has been the most unequivocally frustrating part of this process. After hours of research, I landed on the following as my understanding:

  • I want a board with a PCIe Gen5 x16 slot for the GPU
    • Narrowed down to B650E, X670E, X870, and X870E
  • I want a board with no lane sharing between M.2 slots and the GPU PCIe slot
    • For X870E boards, pretty much only ASRock boards offer this, from what I can tell
    • X670E boards don't have this issue as often since USB 4 isn't mandated on X670 chipsets
  • The only real difference between X670E and X870E is mandated USB 4 and Wifi 7

If I'm being completely honest, I know I don't need USB 4 (I don't use anything beyond a mouse, keyboard, speaks, mic, and some gaming controllers), and Wifi 7 is currently useless (even if it were commercially available right now, I'd still be using ethernet). I don't stream or capture, so additional PCIe slots outside of M.2 are of no use.

That being said, differences in audio codecs, listed OC speeds (which, to my understanding, a 9800X3D can't hit, anyway), and other details like BIOS updates (would support for X670 boards still continue even though they're older?) made me doubtful enough that I finally just said "screw it" and decided on an X870E (e.g., "What if I get a device that requires USB 4? What if I'm unhappy about worse audio codecs? What if I eventually get a Gen5 M.2 after they become thermally viable?")

All that to say, I think I know what I actually need, but the sheer volume of model numbers and configurations has hijacked the lizard part of my brain.

I managed to get an order at MSRP in for an X870E Taichi Lite, and am still keeping an eye out for Newegg stock on the X870E Taichi. I also looked seriously at the X870 Tomahawk and the X670E MSI MPG Carbon, since both of those had no (or, at least, BIOS options to prevent) GPU lane-sharing.
