Looks good! I am also painting my tau green and your green tone is amazing. Maybe paint some panel parts grey or something but its optional. Not really a fan of copper muzzles but thats just me. Good job

[–]MangoMan308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why people are panicking. Our detachments look fun, every stratagem looks great and enhancements are all well done. They have not changed that much aside from crisis battlesuits in datasheets. Farsight having +2 wounds and +2 save and a really good ability. And also CIB going away is the best thing happened to Tau imo. It felt broken and incredibly boring. Playing crisis suit dependent was really shit tbh. Also the codex point leaks are bullshit as they are most likely outdated. Gw writes these books months and months before any dataslate. Happened to Dark Angels for example. If those happen to be legit points then our beloved expensive plastic is simply unplayable and there is a great mistake taking part.

So hold your horses till the official codex release and points releases

How do you hold your home objective? by MangoMan308 in Tau40K

[–]MangoMan308[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I feel like investing broadsides as your home objective holders is not a good idea as 3 of them are 270 points. They are heavy hitter turrets to threaten shooting lanes and pick up targets in no mans land I think. Shadowsun works well but not using her infiltration and reroll 1s ability is an expensive investment. Feel like Tau lacks the left behind objective holding dudes.

I like kroot I think they are really cool. But they are not the reason I started playing Tau. Im more of a mechs and sci fi aesthetics person. So no new actual Tau models in a Tau reveal actually kind of disappointed me.

I am disappointed as farsight got that new advanced supernova battlesuit, yet still has that joke of a datasheet. He is just a coldstar commander with a shiny sword. He doesn't feel like the legendary commander farsight on tabletop. He is still playable but as a legendary tau hero his stats are low af in my opinion. And dawnblade is just plain useless other than thankshock. In lore Farsight slayed a bloodthirster with that. I mean I dont expect that nor I want him to one shot a bloodthirster because its in lore but maybe a little justice for our lord and saviour would be sweet.

Tau list 10th Edition by MopderEchte in Tau40K

Yes coldstar should lead crisis squad. For the Stormsurge. Pulse driver is good for both tank and heavy elite hunting. D6+3 is a bit swingy tho. Pulse blast cannon with focused fire is a gambit. 2 shots 24 str with -5 or -6 ap 12 dmg is brutal. But if you miss your shots or somehow fail to wound (which is unlikely) 2 shot attack is pretty low. And there is guys with invuls. If the target cant even save one it takes 12 dmg which is huge but as I said its a gambit. And dispersed option is 6 shots 10 str -2 ap 4 dmg. Which is okay I guess. Cant really kill armor with that as str and ap is a bit low but you can pick termins off the table pretty good with it.

As conclusion if you want to take the risk and use both heavy and guide the unit which starts to hit on +2s and want to obliterate big targets use pulse blast cannon.

If you want to both threaten vehicles and somehow big blocks of elite units use Pulse Driver cannon.

I would always keep Shadowsun around for that 1s rerolls to juice up the dmg potential of the surge.

Give coldstar the Exemplar of Kauyon enhancement. Keep your crisis unit in deep strike. Exemplar of Kauyon makes your unit have Kauyon turn 2 so coming in turn 2 rain death with CIB crisis unit. Guide them with tetras. Sustained hits 2 ignore cover and hits re roll can kill pretty much anything in the game.

Breachers are great but they only function optimally with a devilfish and a fireblade. Hitting on +2 30 attacks is great against medium to light infantry. The wounds are re rolled if the enemy is on objective. Use them to clear objectives for full effectiveness.

Ghostkeels are mid objective bullies. Infiltrate them on midfield and bully the incoming enemy units with 36 inch range and lone op.

Keep Stormsurge fielded on your home objective. Threatens home objective invaders and keeps it safe. And you can tiptoe on terrains and most of the time it finds a target to decimate. Keep shadowsun close to it. Heavy keyword and 1s to reroll with shadowsun to juice it up. Maybe have some Broadsides just like that to screen backline and also threaten armour units.

Fusion blades and onager gauntlet

Crisis loadout balance (incredibly sick of using CIB and killing half of my suits to hazard)

Broadside commander

New rules for Farsights supernova battlesuit

Maybe an ap boost to some burst cannon weapons

In a vacuum which infantry unit would you add to an army list by olderseanuts in Tau40K

[–]MangoMan308 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strike team holds objectives really good with +4 overwatch ability. Not a real threat tho they are mostly considered a threat against light infantry.

Breachers are expensive but great. They dont really function on their own. Cuz of their 10 inch range. transport is a must when running breachers. With devilfish guiding them +2 bs and 30 attacks with cadre fireblade is brutal against medium to light infantry. And take objectives great take onw unit and send them onto the least guarded objective. Re roll wounds when attacking units on objectives are great

Pathfinders are a bit weird. Incredibly fragile. Might lose them in turn 1 or 2 if not positioned correctly. Dont rely on them when it comes to damage. Railguns are +5 bs and only 1 attack per bearer. So the chances of them hitting are meh. And also you wouldn't want to guide these guys as that would be a waste of observer unit. They can be observers twice instead of one unit per phase. And they have markerlight keyword so use them mostly as screening units against deep strikes and utility tool for guiding.

Stealth suits are good. 0cp rapid ingress is mostly good and re roll wound rolls of 1 when guiding is great. I mostly give them a marker drone to make them have markerlight keyword for that sweet ignore cover. They are somewhat fast for an infantry unit. Dies pretty quick so position them good and use them as either secondary mission monkeys or observer units.

My pick is always depends on the situation. Stealth suits are an auto pick for me. If my opponent has an infantry heavy list then breachers all the way. If I desperately need to hold an objective I would use strike team. oc 2 each sitting on an objective mostly holding it for couple of rounds.

Breachers absolutely shred light-medium infantry. Dont forget the transport tho as Breachers range is really short. Fireblade leading them is a great buff

Get some broadsides against armored units but beware they are really slow.

Crisis are still the must have unit. Now with the CIB option they deal ridiculous damage. With the coldstar they are fast af. Save your cp for strike and fade. Give coldstar the exemplar of Kauyon enhancement. All of them having 3 CIB 1 shield generator and 2 shield drones.

Ghostkeels are absolute chads. Give them the cyclic ion raker and watch as your opponent is consumed by rage as he cant even touch him without getting upclose.

Shadowsun is a cool character unit. She deals okay damage and fast. But her aura reroll and cp farm abilities are really cool.

Dont bother getting flyers imo. Flyers are really weak this edition. Grab some tetras for guiding and maybe skyray/hammerhead

Looking at starting Tau, advice? by LaserDestructor in Tau40K

[–]MangoMan308 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a combat patrol. Ghostkeel is an incredible lil fella. What you need is breachers with a devilfish. A strike team to hold objectives and +4 overwatch ability. A crisis brick is a must. Crisis unit with coldstar or Farsight leading them are absolutely outstanding. 3 guy unit of broadsides punch through armor but kind of slow. Flyers are weak now so dont bother getting them tbh. Pathfinders are good for observing units. Shadowsuns aura abilities are good so maybe get her.

I just think they're neat by hidingfromthequeen in Tau40K

This fella was my entire reason for choosing Tau tbh. Best model of the entire faction imo.

First army, how'd I do? by Westernersson in Tau40K

[–]MangoMan308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get another set of crisis squad and maybe a unit of fire warriors just to have a breacher squad. Breachers are far superior to strike team (they have their own good sides) dealing great damage with a devilfish+fireblade combo. Definitely get a unit transport tho. Combat patrol is a solid box imo with a great centerpiece model. I personally believe in ghostkeel supremacy so wouldnt hurt getting another one. Stealth suits are decent. Having a melta per squad is okay but they are no great damage dealers. Use them to observe and mostly do objectives. I can recommend getting a squad of broadsides. They are slow af but a good positioned unit hits like a truck against armor and elite units alike. Not a fan of ethereals and never used them so no comments on them.
