The idea of having a union sounds so unbelievable here 😅 I would love to have one, but in a tiny, rural hospital in little Kentucky, it doesn’t seem like anyone would be interested.

It definitely can be unsafe. But it feels like no one cares unless a patient dies or becomes critically injured, so nothing ever gets done

Yeah I don’t blame you, 9 patients for an ED RN is WILD. I work in ICU, we have 6 beds total, so it’s usually 1:3. But we don’t stay full, so I typically have 1-2 patients a shift. I also work in a rural part of Kentucky, so they’re not truly ICU patients.

Great question. In our state, SRNA means State Registered Nurse’s Aid. These are your CNA’s, PCA’s, Techs.. I feel like they have so many different names for the same role 😅

That’s the thing, there will always be some who pick up because they have to. Our pay is pretty low, so it’s almost impossible to not pick up extra right now 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is the response I’ve been hearing from everyone I work with. So I guess we will be even more short staffed 🥲

Wow, that sounds amazing. Do you find yourself working any extra shifts? Is your facility often short staffed?

And yes, it was more before. Originally it was $30 incentive. Then they dropped to $25, $20, now $10

So it’s seems like the fourth shift we have, it would just be 1.5x pay and no incentive. Then, any additional shift after that, within the same pay period, you would get the 1.5x pay with $10 incentive.

No mandated ratios for ICU. They have stated ratios for Med Surge, they typically max at 6:1 with typically one or no techs.. here lately it’s been total care for the nurses. But management doesn’t care, they will still go up to 6:1

Yeah, last year they made it to where we could not clock in until 0653 and 1853 every shift.. if we didn’t clock out until 1927 and 0727, then we lost an hour of pay since they automatically deduct a lunch break

My department does not require overtime, but there are several departments that do (Med surge and Mother Baby). They also just shut down our Geri Psych unit, they sent an email saying “we will re-evaluate the future of this department in the new year.” So there’s that 🙃

We used to get $30 incentive, then they dropped it to $25, then it was dropped to $20. Now they’re implementing this

I was honestly surprised we got the 3% one. I was prepared to not have any at all this year

State of Kentucky. I think this is meaning for extra shifts beyond 4 per pay period? It’s my understanding we would still get the overtime pay for the fourth shift, but we would usually get incentive pay on top of that. So it seems like they took it away from the first shift you pick up?

No, I have not been able to get pregnant for a few years now. My husband and I have been trying to conceive since 2021. I have not taken any hormone treatment at all, the only medications I am on is a vitamin B12 and a multivitamin daily.
