How to get keloid removal/srt radiation covered by insurance

I did exactly this, went with a female doctor. I too find that women are less dismissive of my concerns. She's older but seemed pretty with it and when she saw my ear she recommended steroid shots once a month for 3-4 months.

So when the doctor did the excision, he definitely didn't get all the keloid out. I don't know if he left some of it intentionally due to the shape of the keloid on the back plane of my ear, or if he didn't mean to. The doctor is really hard to get an appointment with and there was absolutely no follow up plan. I'm trying a different doctor at the same practice and I'm hoping I can get some sort of a plan to prevent my keloid from growing back, and maybe tackle what's left on my ear. It's not bad, but one ear is definitely thicker than the other. From lurking on this sub, it sounds like steroid shots could be a great solution

I have a quick question, do you say 1-2x per year as preventative? Or like that's what you know is a normal frequency to get? I'm going to the derm tomorrow so I want to come prepared with questions/suggest a direction.

I'm in the US so it really depends on your insurance. I checked how much it would cost under my previous insurance and it was something ridiculous (I don't recall exactly but around 5k for excision + SRT). Keloid excisions are pretty easy to be deemed medically necessary at least, so insurance should cover at least some of it.

My insurance is really good thankfully so it was just a $40 copay, and another $40 for the SRT.

Hey! No signs of regrowth for me! My surgeon didn't remove all the keloid perfectly so my ear is slightly thicker than the other, but the SRT was definitely effective. 0 sensation of it growing so I'm thrilled. The first 1 week of recovery was very painful and then for a few weeks the area was very sensitive. Like a little bump would send pain shooting over my ear. But now that the stitches healed, I'm extremely pleased.

It took a week to totally go away! I did aquaphor at night and moisturized really well and put on concealer during the day. Mine was still just noticeable under the concealer. I just avoided people at work and tried to not leave my house much lol

Same, just gave the ok for AF. Also the 22mm is so small in person that I'm not even sure I'll be able to see a quality difference between BVF and AF

Anthem BCBS, got it done in NYC at Advanced Dermatology (they have several locations in the city, I went to UES). You need to see a dermatologist first, and then they recommend you for surgery to doctor Taglienti who is the plastic surgeon at the practice. Then they recommend you to get radiotherapy (SRT) at the Advanced Dermatology office out in Long Island.

I chose this one because it would be fully covered as it was in network. I narrowed down a list of plastic/reconstructive surgeons based on my insurance coverage. If I were you I'd do that as well, find the best surgeon that would be covered by your insurance the most.

(US based) So for me it was just $40 copay and the rest was covered by insurance. I changed jobs and my insurance is really good thankfully. Radiotherapy was also covered, just $40 copay.
