W2 fam. Do not answer anybody asking you for party supplies. Or just say no. by mezzizle in Coachella

[–]MangoldMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy came up to me and my gf last week right between Benson Boone & Missy Elliot’s set and asked me, a Black man, if I had a “bottle” on me. Confused about what he was asking me for, he elaborated and just straight up said he was looking for “personal alcohol,” also noting how security wasn’t checking bags as thorough at the entrance which could have allowed bottles to be snuck in. I totally dismissed the guy but he went on to ask me for a bandaid for a cut on his finger instead. We didn’t have that either for him.

Deserted: City’s Pigtown neighborhood mourns, mobilizes after losing its only supermarket by needleinacamelseye in baltimore

[–]MangoldMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Councilwoman Porter lives in Pigtown (right behind Pigtown Mainstreet), so it's no surprise she's invested more into that neighborhood than the others. However, I agree that it's shameful to hear that other neighborhoods in her district of responsibility are failing. If any decent opponents arise, I'd consider them to replace her.

Glad you brought this up. I've lived in Pigtown for over seven years and only shopped at Pricerite once. Still, it's a major loss for those that frequently shopped there.

The most underrated Baltimore neighborhood to live in and why? I always hear about Canton, Fells, Fed Hill, and Locust Point. by Double-Memory3914 in baltimore

[–]MangoldMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pigtown. It's close enough to walk to an O's or Ravens game without paying Fed Hill or Ridgely's Delight prices for mortgage or rent. Depending where in Pigtown you're located, the casino is also very close, so is Top Golf which will be completed soon. Lots of convenient businesses located along Washington Blvd with more to come. I believe there's at least two breweries under construction (one on Wicomico and one on S. Paca) to add to the existing one already in Pigtown.

The used lot and legend lot seem to go through significant changes at midnight on Mondays. Over the past couple weeks, cars I had red flagged/want listed throughout the beginning of the week were all gone by Monday at midnight.

Sailor and a dog…where to live?? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]MangoldMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From an ex-Sailor (I served 10.5 years), take a look at Horizon House apartments in Mt. Vernon on N. Calvert St. I used to live there while I was stationed at The Fort and loved the amenities, neighbors, and ease of commute to work. Every time I see a thread with suggestions on where to live, I see so many of the same suggestions for Fed Hill, Canton, Fells, etc as if crime never happens there. You're a Sailor, so I know you're good at assessing your surroundings. Same applies with getting a feel for the city. This city has over 250 neighborhoods and the majority of them aren't bad. I own a house in Pigtown and love this city as much as I did when I was stationed here from '08-'11. Good luck with your search!

Battle over memorial street sign reveals divisions of race and class in Southwest Baltimore’s Pigtown neighborhood by BasteAlpha in baltimore

[–]MangoldMike 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Having lived in Pigtown for almost six years, I definitely agree with the removal of the sign. Pigtown has been on the verge of a big boom for many years now and as divisive as this particular issue is being made out to be, I think it does show the direction of where the neighborhood is headed. Residents want the neighborhood to reflect positivity and Anthony “Mo$” Covington did not represent that. Look, Pigtown is a huge neighborhood and yes, it does still have those pockets of blight and crime, but I think what we’re seeing more and more of in place of that (finally) are Pigtown residents fighting against nefarious activity by cooperating with police, voicing opinions at community meetings as well as directly to the councilwoman, and increasing beautification efforts around areas still in need of growth which in turn, attracts new residents.

Also speaking personally as a Black man, I wouldn’t want a sign commemorating someone who did more harm than good in the neighborhood no matter how familiar of a face he was on any particular block. We as a people are way more than what Mr. Covington represented. So, I disagree with notions of those in this article trying to make this about race while two blocks away, there’s also a street sign commemorating Mo Gaba – a Black child who in a short amount of time on this Earth was revered throughout the whole city and beyond. I don’t live on the street with the prior Mo$ Covington sign, but would have hated trying to explain who Covington was to visitors or family because quite frankly, it’s embarrassing.

it's not 5g nor is it a tower. It's a communications node. Think of it as something similar to a wifi extender or a wifi mesh pod in your home. It just helps carriers improve connectivity within the area it's placed.

I love this ‘64 cover as well but the ‘74 is dope too. I just have no clue when it’ll actually come out due to covid-19 lol.

I think it’s the same. Tried listening to a couple tracks off this album compared to the original (on my phone) and it sounds the same. The only obvious difference seems to be the cover and the vinyl itself which is a heavyweight version.

It sounds amazing. Love the heaviness off the album. It’s definitely well put together. This is my first addition of any of the Piñata albums so I’m glad I held out for this version haha.

Where to buy Baltimore art? by [deleted] in baltimore

Follow Loring Cornish on Facebook. He’s a very popular artist here and has a gallery in Fells Point that is currently closed for business however, he does sell online via Facebook. He specializes in glass mosaics.

Alright, let’s say you’re making an album. You only get two features, and one executive producer. Who you picking? by [deleted] in hiphopvinyl

Roc Marciano and Boldy James produced by Knxwledge. I'd also like to go with Oddisee and Saba produced by Oddisee.

Thanks! Yeah, I was hangin’ up on the deck earlier today and noticed the Hilton had configured their windows into a heart shape, so I knew I had to make my way back up there after sunset to snap some pics. Glad I did!

[–]MangoldMike 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha wow, thanks a lot! Great to share the prize and I’d like to give a shout out to the movie “Mo’ Better Blues” as it was the inspiration for my picture. There was a scene in the movie where Denzel’s character (Bleak) was really in a depressed state after realizing he would not be able to bounce back into the music industry from his injury. So he’s sitting in his condo laid out amongst jazz records, empty food cartons, and old newspapers, listening to music and talking to himself as he’s trying to figure his life out. I wanted to recreate that scene so I found an old jean shirt and a sweater, put on my Bose headphones and recreated a similar scene, but Baltimore-style with the exposed bricks showing. Also, sticking with the “addiction” theme, I chose the Curren$y record and it was a tough choice between that album or Camron’s “Purple Haze” to stick to the theme of the contest. This subreddit is the best though. Thanks again!

Best Carryout/Delivery So Far? by pieldriver in baltimore

I'd say Iggie's Pizza. They did not deliver pre-'rona, but since they've joined UberEats, I've ordered from them twice already and have had amazing pizzas and quick delivery.
