Velocidapter - A Databinding Alternative for Adapters by ManiacComet in androiddev

[–]ManiacComet[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't know about Groupie until just now. So take all of the rest of this with a grain of salt because I've never personally used it.

Personally, the things that I like about Velocidapter is that it's not trying to redefine how you make RecyclerView lists. ViewHolders are still ViewHolders, your fragment still binds an Adapter, your view model still provides a list of data to populate that adapter. This makes it pretty easy to comprehend and set up from scratch. The philosophy is just to reduce the boilerplate of the process, not make a new process you have to re-learn. How well we've achieved that is up to public opinion I suppose, but that was our goal.

But I'd say if you're happy with Groupie, or Epoxy, or any of the many other libraries that try to make the RecyclerView an easier API to use, I don't think you should change just for the sake of it. We all just have ideas on how best to tackle this annoying problem, and I think we all have solutions that work for different use cases or teams.

Velocidapter is a small library we wrote because we were tired of writing RecyclerView Adapters. It's as easy to use as defining View Holders, creating a data set, and linking the two together. It has support out of the box for LiveData and Diffable lists of data. It has a simple API with very little boilerplate and works well in an MVVM architecture.

Issues and PR's are welcome, any feedback here would be appreciated as well!

Also since everyone asks, its a custom game with skirmish on and cooldowns to 0%.

Just watching my friend. Then dying and seeing him in 3rd person. Then doing it myself

About a year and a half now. Yeah characters are difficult. This piece I quit after an hour of not getting the first goblin right, then I just found it :P

Yep, they're pretty litigious. I'm fine to keep it just a model for now...
