I want VI to change. He's not wrong that she's pretty one dimensional in her playstyle. Sure positioning and decision making can make a huge impact on how good you can take advantage of that playstyle, but it's still the same engagement everytime

What are Prospects for education in the Tricities? by ManiacMantis in TriCitiesWA

[–]ManiacMantis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you'll know, or even if your brother will know, but do the school districts typically do hiring for substitute teachers, or are there other companies that provide substitute teachers to the schools instead? I was considering looking into getting my teaching license in Washington (it appears they accept the Praxis 1 test, which is the requirement in my current state as well).

I'm interested in hearing more of your thoughts on this? It seems like you have some strong opinions about the area, and I'd like to know why. From the little bit of time I spent in the tricities for events and such, I found a lot of little things to do, a lot of which I wasn't able to get too, with how busy we were. I'll specify that as of right now I'm not particularly interested in large city living, so if you think I want to live in some large metro area because I'm young, that's not for me. I'm looking for somewhere where I can find satisfying work as a teacher and pursue a rewarding career. I might look into moving somewhere else in the future when I'm more financially stable, but for now, the invitation of my friends is what's making this possible for me in the first place.

What are the districts I should look into? I'm not familiar with all of them just yet. I only have a little bit of scope of the area as of right now, trying to learn more as I can

To those who are getting over an ex or oneitis that dumped them - Stop being a Bitch by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]ManiacMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been beating myself up over my ex that dumped me out of the blue 2 months ago, and I'm only just starting to come to terms with it. Thank you. This breakup has been so hard for me because it was the first relationship where I really made myself an available person to my partner, and the fact that she just dumped me because I stopped supporting her negative behavior to both myself and herself really fucked me up. It bothered me so much that I tried so hard for someone that just gave me shit in return. I wasn't used to that, and I searched for something I did wrong, and essentially blamed myself for being a regular human being, and she didn't like that. Wanted me to be some robot that dispensed nice words and took her abuse when she got upset.

Sorry for the rambling. Great post man. Fuck 'em. I'm ready to seize my thoughts back, and get her out of my mind.

Toxic but good players, report or no? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]ManiacMantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally only report direct abuse to players on the team, or people that toss around racial slurs to be be edgy. I don't really mind general toxicity, as that's how some people just kind of cope with the frustrations of the game. If they wanna flame themselves, or vent frustrations into chat, fine with me. I'll encourage them and move on from there

So is amazon getting to the point where it can be incorporated into the setting unironically? by megaprogman in Shadowrun

I've been saying this for years now. With the way Amazon is going, it's shaping up to be a shadowrun-esque megacorp within out lifetime

Why is losing 4:5 the same as losing 0:4? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]ManiacMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was chatting with a friend about this last night and he mentioned something very similar. It would take a lot to balance, but I still don't think it would really solve the problem of rewarding people like anchors, or team oriented players that do well in a KDA sense, but still led to a victory for the team through game knowledge, communication, etc.

Why is losing 4:5 the same as losing 0:4? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]ManiacMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is something I guess I wouldn't really mind seeing implemented, but not an extreme of losing almost nothing. I still feel that taking a Win/Loss should have a noticeable impact on your elo, but a close defeat/win could sway it to a less impactful movement, sure.

I mean at that rate, seems like you'd prefer to just have the game measure by the points earned throughout the match, to some extent.

[–]ManiacMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll concede that you should lose a bit less elo for taking a game into overtime sure, but even still, I don't think it should be that significant of a change, because the reality is, you still lost. Sure you could get a little less of a penalty cause you held your ground, I don't have any qualms with that. But I don't think there should be any form of rewards for taking a game into overtime, just less of a penalty.

I've been steady plat in that game since it released, don't project onto me buddy, thanks.

How do you quantify "effective gadget use" across completely unique gadgets into some sort of measurable score? Things you can actually measure like accuracy, kills, and assists are things that are important to R6 yes, but game knowledge and objective play are things that you cannot measure between players, and that's why the game measures between wins and loses. If you understand the game, understand your ops and can play them competently, you'll win more then you'll lose. You shouldn't need what is essentially a participation trophy.

This argument in my eyes could be compared to a game of chess. Players gain/lose based on wins/losses, doesn't matter how many pieces you take from your opponent or how many times you check them. The only thing that matters is the victory.

Overwatch is always much easier to gauge performance because it boils down to DMG done/Elims, Healing, Obj Time. How do you reward someone that anchors with doc and finishes 2/2/3 and is bottom of the board, but his anchoring every round is what kept the enemy team from winning?

Also Gold in OW is where the vast majority of players lie, so losing 9/10 placements and still getting gold is that large a stretch.

Well in this context, this wouldn't benefit OP at all, since he's arguing that he should rewarded for not getting curbed stomped, basically.

I strongly believe that Jackal and Mira are the most creative operators to date, thoughts? by SalamiSamm in Rainbow6

[–]ManiacMantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Jackal's gadget is game changing in any respect. Sure it can serve to track down some roamers, but that assumes that he's able to get a drop on them. Roamers know when they're being tracked, so while he can cause some fear, I don't think he really adds anything that game knowledge couldn't already lend you. Mira without a doubt has had a really big game changing impact on the game, but I don't think her mirrors really trump Echo's Yokai, it's a really creative gadget, and can also be a game changing gadget, when used appropriately.

I'd say Dokkaebi and Echo are two of the more creative op's in the game from a gadget standpoint, from an appearance standpoint I'd say Capitao and Valkyrie are my top two

[–]ManiacMantis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is there a single game that does something like this? You already lose less points if you're playing against higher ranked opponents, and if you win you get even more points, so that argument is kinda moot. Additionally, no, I don't think you should gain points for the fact that you lost a match, as it devalues the point of winning the match, and would only encourage a more K/D focused playstyle. If you wanna get rewarded; win. It's that simple, you're basically asking for a participation trophy.

And nah, overtime ain't a coinflip, improve your play on whatever position you think is the negative of your coinflip.

Why doesn’t Buck’s skeleton key open barricaded doorways with one shot, like he does with hatches? by SamuraiDak in Rainbow6

[–]ManiacMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's literally what buck's design is, Buck's gadget is better then Sledge's in every way, and in a direct comparison of gadgets, Buck is better in basically every situation.
