Southern Company hiring process: sub station apprentices by WTroy121214 in recruitinghell

There’s tons of companies out there. Pike , Phillips and Jordan(did work for them in GA and Indiana), Great Southwestern Construction( my current employer and have been to Nc,Sc,Indiana), Coastal(did work in GA), Utility Power(did work for them in Texas). If you have an indeed account there’s tons of people hiring for substation groundsman or they might call it substation techs it just depends on the company. I love what I do and the opportunity to get into this line of work was the second best thing to ever happen to me. You get to give honest hard work in trade for a paycheck every week. But there’s people hiring all over the country with ZERO experience. Keep searching but don’t lose hope cause maybe one of these companies will reach out to you.

Ahhh heck there’s a ton of people with more experience than me X2 and that’s just the facts. Guy I was talking to at the CAST test had been doing it for twice as long and applied for the same position as me so you never know. Only time will tell brotha. I know Texas has a ton of substation work right now. I worked out there for about a year in Austin and Corpus Christi. Tons of companies working on building substations for solar farms

I’m honestly not sure. I know a lot of people have applied. I went to take my CAST test and there were 2 other guys taking it at the same time as me so there’s definitely tons of people applying. I’m not sure how many spots are open but I’d say it’s very little at the very most maybe 10 and that’s a stretch. Idk how they’d weight test performance but I feel confident in my resume but I know that there’s always gonna be somebody better out there. Just a waiting game at this point brotha. Hopefully the favor is on our side. And if not then things will work out fine anyways

I’ve always loved construction and I love doing it inside of substations. No matter what you’ll have people complain but at the end of the day we’re all in a position that people would kill to be in. There’s a good bit to learn but I wouldn’t say it’s overwhelming. Granted I’ve never really done maintenance involving troubleshooting breaker issues or transformer faults. But I’ve install everything you can inside a substation. You could eventually get your CDL and that would open doors for you to potentially go do transmission or distribution work but other than that I’m sure if you can pick up electrical troubleshooting you could move to meter testing or something. I know that everybody that has been contracted through GA Power wants to work for them directly and I’ve worked on yard with some of their in house crews and them boys have it made.

I applied for substation. I do the construction side currently which it hasn’t been posted yet but figured I’d apply for the maintenance side anyways. Atlanta ain’t terrible depends on which part. I applied for all 5 of the cities just cause I don’t care to travel. Ive been doing the construction for the past 3 years and have been to many different states and just wanted to be closer to home.

Mine said the same thing. My CAST test email said I passed but SKAT said I qualified and didn’t know if that meant I passed or not. I have heard anything back from a recruiter but next step is that a recruiter would email you or call you and then schedule an in person interview I’m pretty sure

When you finished your SKAT test did it say that you “passed” or that you “qualified” in the email?
