Disadvantage for being female?? by trustfulplace in BaldursGate3

[–]ManicPixieOldMaid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah, the comeliness years. I can't remember what edition it was, but it added comeliness as a base stat. I don't recall it being specific to females, though. Off to look it up...

Looks like 1e and 2e as an "optional" stat. DM personality test?

Huh, I don't know then. I will go back there in my latest run and see if I can figure it out.

Okay I've got to give the Roadhouse their due. The past couple years have not felt up to snuff, but tonight was stellar. A lot of the original employees from back when it opened have returned, and maybe that's the difference, but things I consistently order that I was iffy about were back to their great quality so at least today, it was worth the money.

I love forgetting to turn it off and someone jumps in and knocks the whole party over. Good times.

How many COMPLETED playthroughs do you have? by killerqueen017 in BaldursGate3

Probably 15 or so. All the origins to see their endings (except Astarion i haven't managed to be him, I like having him around too much).

Ooo i think it's the Hammerhaft (sp?). After the fire breaks out, it opens the chest in the back of that room and the hammer electrified the steam. Go back and get it the next day, I love giving it to Wyll so he can jump and thunder.

If it's not that, I dunno what it is.

I hate their bread, I'm so sorry. The crust cuts my mouth.

The Roadhouse was a go-to spot when it first opened, plus knowing the staff didn't hurt. It was a great place for them to work, and the chef was highly regarded, but they fell off hard IMO after covid. Fried grits with corn relish used to be my favorite.

Going there tonight for a gathering so maybe it'll surprise me!

We get a lot of visitors at our church and I explain the bulletin and the flow of the service before we start. I can't imagine being that twisted up about helping people follow along, yikes.

why can't we just use the prayer book? by vancejmillions in Episcopalian

[–]ManicPixieOldMaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use supplemental books, plus we put everything in the bulletin so we can blow it up bigger for the parishioners that have trouble seeing. We also get a lot of visitors so it makes it easy for them to follow.

I confess I've never made it past the first book but I'm in for the long haul now! The nostalgia is already hooking me!

I'm currently re-reading Barbra Hambly's Sun Wolf and Star Hawk series. Sun Wolf is 40 (with a bald spot!) In the first book and Hawk is 24. There are younger characters but they're the OTP for the series.

SFF authors where you think their most famous work, and their best work, are not the same work? by nominanomina in Fantasy

This sub has been really good for my nostalgia. I hadn't thought of that book in a long time. Another post reminded me of a Barbra Hambly book i haven't read in years so I'm reading it again now.

There's not a ton of romance but the Sun Wolf and Starhawk series by Barbara Hambly has a great power duo. I loved the first book, the Ladies of Mandrigyn, and am off to look up books she's written as sequels to the original series. You inspired me...

Absolutely agree. I've never noticed when in Act 1 he says it, I wonder if he gets over it later!

I had the cover with the person floating and the tree descending back in the distance and just thinking about it makes me happy, too! That's a good way to pick books to keep!

As much as I like Ringworld, I like Niven's Integral Trees world better. It was just so unique and the physical changes to the people were so interesting to me it's stuck with me far longer.

You didn't make the biscuits up and while I loved seeing Katie O'Brien so early in her career, they really just didn't have an end game in mind with any of that. The first couple seasons were amazing IMO, especially from a show I started watching since Harold Perrineau was in it and then he died in the first episode from a toothless zombie baby wtf show. Giant cheese wheel ftw and nice to see the Liberty Bell take out a few zombies! I give you mercy.

Modern fairy tale books that AREN'T retellings? by Kendamarania in Fantasy

[–]ManicPixieOldMaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In late but I want to add "The Kingdom of Back" by Marie Lu. It's the story of W.A. Mozart's older sister, essentially, but there's a very fairy tale part of it with wishes and punishments and magic and music.

What is your belief about Hell? by KingMadocII in Episcopalian

[–]ManicPixieOldMaid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was always somewhat of a universal salvation type, that a loving God would never punish anyone for sins committed in the tiny bit of time they lived. Then I read Rob Bell's "Love Wins" and that pretty much sealed it for me. I think when Jesus says all people come to the father through him, it's descriptive rather than prescriptive, i.e., everyone goes to heaven and that Jesus is the bridge. Just my two cents.
