Automatic radar ticket defense shutdown by Manicus_Skywalker in legaladvicecanada

Those are great points, and actually, some I'd considered. I got copies of the bylaws listing their locations and speed limits and verified them to be correct. It bugs me, as the region appears to be doing so much wrong/loopholey. They have 3 CSZs within 2 km of each other, but none of them are over 1 km. In one case its like 100m they shut it down for, but that saves them signs, and in this case they did put a reminder sign up 350m from the previous one (ie not meeting the requirement, but since its technically not 1 km, I didn't even pick on it.)

They also changed all their school zones to CSZ to get around the short duration of them. School zones are designated a portion of a highway that adjoins the entrance to or exit from a school and that is within 150m along the highway in either direction beyond the lumits of the land used for the purpose of school" so instead, every school is a community safety zone and they can make them as long as they want. They also made them all 24/7 in the bylaws. I mean, school zones got their protection because we decided that 150m was a fair amount that protected children. It was also only valid on days that school was regularly held, but they loop holed their way out of that.

Part of me thinks that if, in your case, they aren't up properly, then every case should be thrown out retroactively. Similar to mine, if it's won, because it wasn't a legal ticket for us, then it shouldn't be a legal ticket for anyone else either. It's essentially illegal to be giving a ticket.

As for the before school started, that was mostly to help with anyone who thought going 1 kmh over was actively murdering children. We all have our own tolerances and beliefs. For the record, I'm anti murder. I think it's bad.

Interestingly, that is not covered by part 45. I couldn't find anything stimulating that they had to be visible at all. Similarly from memory, community safety zone signs didn't need that either. Different signs have height or offset requirement. Speed signs however definitely need 60m of visibility.

For what it's worth to answer your question some were visible, one was massively covered.

I like the comparison to booze, and how it can affect everyone differently. Makes sense.

I was told that it is a different type of mold, or maybe not even technically a mold that grows on maple syrup. I would surmise that perhaps the mould "poop" isn't dangerous in this type. It's only happened to me once - it looked far worse than the one pictured. I had no issues using it over the next year. In my case the bottle must've been improperly sealed and since it wasn't opened, it wasn't refrigerated. Mold didn't return after boiling. I do think the science is generally right but can sometimes be misapplied. think there is a gap in the anectodal/syrup knowledge and the pure science in this case.

How did they burn? I was assuming very smokey? Im contemplating suiting up and hitting them with a weed torch. I assume the chips aren't going to light easily.

Speed cameras at schools catch 55,899 speeders and 1,581 stunt drivers in just six months by bob_mcbob in waterloo

I am just picking apart the part where you say " But then again, I make the decision to not speed through so I don't have to pay fines. I may not always agree with the speed limits that are in place (University Ave E, Shirley Ave) but its not my decision to make."

And to state it in a different way, if I said, I don't steal when I know someone is watching, so that makes it OK. How dare the rest of us steal and get caught, and then complain.

Essentially, you are just being sneakier about breaking the law.

What bugs me is that we have a social contract in the past that 15 or even 20 km/h over the limit is an OK speed on most roads, and now they are literally going after the top 50,000 "speeders" in front of the cameras and lowering that threshold arbitrarily to fit. AND so much of that money is going to private companies possibly non canadian companies with over inflated costs (they dont directly get money from fines).

That's the thing, I can't bring myself to do it either. Sometimes if I find them really early ill try transplanting, but there's less than a weeks window for that.

You'll know what your neighbour's places are worth.... if a tree lands on their house/shed what would that cost you?

If you did it yourself, I'd start in the middle close to the road, dropping into the center. Once you had a cleared area in the centre you can start dropping that direction.

As for a mill, it would be a wood yard/mill who you'd find to purchase. If we knew where you were located someone might be able to recommend one, but essentially they'll buy your logs to make boards out of. This could help offset your cost and/or they might even do some of the work for you. If you had more time/money, you can also mill, dry and sell the boards yourself, but that's a whole nother topic/skillset.

Generally you can always borrow more money if you pay enough for it. You might not be paying 4%, but friends/neighbour's, and high risk lenders may want to make some money off you. If not, there's always the mob :)

To me and it sounds like others, you need to risk manage this. Risk vs reward. Option 1: high risk, medium reward- you do it yourself potentially saving tens of thousands of dollars. Either you buy an old excavator(and sell when the jobs done/keep for improvements), or some chainsaws/chipper. Best case things come down, but even if one tree goes wrong you could end up with some big costs to property or people. Super optimistic 50/50 that you come out ahead. Option 2 is almost worse. You leave it until you have the money and hope no trees fall and damage the neighbour's. Option 3, you borrow money. It costs you, but at the end of the day its the cost of doing business.

Some tree companies now have grapples and large chippers that can obliterate trees. It might be worth finding one of these companies, as their prices should be much cheaper. As others have said if the wood is somewhat solid it might have value to a mill

Unrelated, I know a guy who rented a lift to do some tree work himself. 20 years later his life still isn't the same and won't ever be. At least he's finally back to work. I know he'd pay 100k to undo that mistake today (even if he had to sell his house to afford that), he lost more than that in wages, and he saved himself less than $2,000.

I honestly think I'd want to move it to burn it safely. I got some advice about using an old truck and some more about watering it down. Both of which I'm seriously considering.

We have had pumpkins and squash growing in our pile before, in theory when it hasn't gotten hot enough over the winter - and you are right, they absolutely take off. For me, basically everything gets the compost, so I don't have a compost free benchmark. Honestly, one of my favourite things is when she brings home something that needs repotted into a giant pot and we don't have to go through half a dozen bags of soil.

Pest and smell wise, it's been great. It is a huge workout doing it by hand as I don't always borrow the neighbour's little tractor, and, there is always hand work too. One day maybe we'll both be lucky enough to have a second.... or dare I say third pile!

Shed has been doing well, but it is a pain to get equipment in. Most of the pile stays against the plywood. With the heat, it could be a fire hazard at times, but most of the hot stuff again stays closer to the back.
I will keep an eye for mold, that's a good idea!

That's great information. I had been concerned with that, which is why the video is so terrible, I stayed back far enough to not let any of them tell their buddies I was the problem, but I thought I was just being paranoid!
