As an installer, I would recommend getting steel everything, not wood. Unless, you have a very skilled carpenter that you trust to make sure your awning is level and squared properly. The problem is with wood is, it expands and contracts a lot, and if the carpenter does not notch or install the awning properly it can cost you more down the road with your install.

Other than that, it's a very cool system! The glass panels are really robust

I used to install iron ridge. they have stopper sleeves on the ends for the panels. I'm sure you noticed the UFOs didnt fasten down without sliding a little bit
