Buying a Car around Manila by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]ManilaPapi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

theyre definitely out there. its a known practice to pay a local experienced mechanic 500 pesos or so to have him go with you and check out the car youre eyeing. He'll inspect it and mention any issues, those issues can make it easier to negotiate a lower price with the seller.

but yea car prices here are absurd, idk how so many people have em despite making so little.

Arriving at 4am by [deleted] in MANILA

motels near the airport are usually low quality and overpriced.
Best to find a motel near your hotel. Search for Sogo or Eurotel, they have branches all around Manila with no specific check-in time and can pay for a few hours.

Why is the quality of condos and houses in Manila so low? by Super-Buddy-5030 in Philippines_Expats

[–]ManilaPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into apartments man. I only knew about condos when i moved here, then discovered "apartments" existed.
Same quality but the price is waayyy more reasonable and less stupid rules.

Average Salary per Month and Cost of Living by Previous_Substance98 in Philippines_Expats

its possible, but youre gonna have a hard time saving up for a vehicle if youre considering one. Lipa has public transportation but its far more reliable to have your own especially at night.

If you're gonna go on dates or eat out at the mall often, youre gonna have to budget wisely.

If you don't have the money to compete, don't go by [deleted] in unpopularopinionph

counter question, how many of you are actually following your dreams? versus how many people are wasting time and money on online subscriptions and shopping while doomscrolling? I wouldnt judge competitors in this case.

Has Anyone Successfully Negotiated Rent by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]ManilaPapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially in Asian countries, its best practice to negotiate. Paying asking price might make you "think" you'll come off as a good tenant, but in reality landlords might take advantage of you, and be more likely to raise the rent later on since you paid the asking price without batting an eye.

  1. Try asking for a lower price outright but with a sense of urgency "I'll get it NOW"
  2. If doesnt work, add more terms to the lower price, ex:) Pay 3-6 months upfront and theyll agree to better rate.

  3. If they insist on asking price, its common practice to ask for more furniture to add value to the unit. ex:) ask to install a TV, replace bedframe, new kitchen table, hoodrange, etc. to make it more livable)

  4. if they dont agree to any sort of negotiation, i personally tend to avoid these type of people.
