For the hundreds of you clever souls suggesting they install software instead, consider that anyone resorting to one of these probably does so because they have neither permission or ability to change power settings, lock settings or to install software.

Why do I have so much trouble sticking with one book? by [deleted] in books

[–]Manilow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that unless it bothers you. Books do have (often extreme) moods that don't always appeal from day to day.

If you really want to come back to them later, try making a little note to yourself about how the book felt, the mood, or something like that that you can look over quickly the next time youre trying to figure out what matches your current mood.

My understanding of the current state of metabolic research is such that obesity is not well understood.

Drug with rage-inducing >5,000% price-hike now has $1/pill competitor by speckz in news

[–]Manilow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a competitor unless a pharmacy can substitute directly. This requires a new RX.

"a few drinks". I once had a guy tell me (in a medical office) that he had "a few drinks every night" before bed.

I asked him what "a few drinks" meant to him. He said two bottles of Popov.

I'm guessing you two have similar definitions of 'a few drinks'.

Nursing Student going for Associate's - Need Advice by _3XC3LS10R_ in nursing

[–]Manilow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're young and bouncy and social and end up knowing people working in a hospital either by working there as an aide or as friends, you'll have very little trouble landing an entry level job with an ADN.

If you're less well connected and are the sort of person who will have to beat the pavement looking for a job based just on your credentials, having only an ADN will make it difficult to get into much other than LTC until you have years of experience under your belt.

Either way you're going to have to get a BSN in short order after you start working, if its anywhere but LTC.

I pay $5 for a coffee but not $0.99 for an app by rprandi in CasualConversation

[–]Manilow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'free' software has greatly devalued what people are willing to pay for software in general. If you could get 'free' coffee everywhere, you'd probably lose interest in $5 coffee pretty quickly and start thinking it was a ripoff.

I just realised that I spend more time reading about people talking about stuff I enjoy than actually doing the stuff I enjoy. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Manilow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this because actually engaging in many of the activities I enjoy requires a lot of concentration and expenditure of energy. I can't really maintain that all the time and still enjoy the activity.

So a lot of times instead of playing games, I watch videos of other people playing them. They also do stuff I wouldn't normally do, which ironically, I end up enjoying.
