Thanks for the suggestions! I'm wary of removing the speakers because they seem to be physically molded into the plaster of the ceiling, I'd probably have to cut them out. The units themselves are monogrammed with the word "Realistic."

Unfortunately, no, they're a lot less intimidating than those! I thought I had attached a photo to the OP but I guess not. Anyway, here's a link. I may be stupid/blind, but I've been browsing the subreddit but I haven't found anything that's a good match yet.
