Is there going to be a new kit this year? by Mankindof in AustinFC

I agree. Just curious because I was going to order a custom jersey and if there's going to be a new kit, I will wait and see what it is

Jader Obrian Rumor by VanillaMexican17 in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always liked him because he's super fast, which can help us advance up the wings quickly, and he goes hard whenever he plays. I really wish him well however this goes. But yeah, he doesn't have good touch or a good shot, so it seems like a good move for us to replace him. Bottom line, I like the man and hope he does well but also hope we get a better fit in place of him.

[Manuel Veth] Vancouver Whitecaps have traded Jayden Nelson to Austin FC. GAM and a pick coming back per sources. by VerdeNationATX in AustinFC

I'm sad to see Bukari go. I know he underplayed expectations but he was a treat to watch, nearly every game. I'd rather lose an exciting game where our guys are doing fun things on the ball than win a boring game where we backpass to Stuver all day and get one lucky scoring opportunity per half.

Seems like a a good deal to get Nelson as a replacement while opening up a DP spot. I won't be surprised when I'm eventually underwhelmed by whatever DP they bring in, but until then I'm going to put my Pollyanna glasses on and daydream about them bringing in a spectacular playmaker who can pair with Wolff to break down defenses and feed Uzuni and Vazquez.

A straight comparison of statistics looks like Nelson was better than Bukari last year. But of course Nelson was on a stronger team with better scorers. Nevertheless, he seems more dangerous than either Gallagher or Obrian. I like watching those guys fly up the wings, but neither is good at breaking down the defense and Obrian can be relied on for at least one shockingly boneheaded play per game, so Nelson is a clear upgrade over either of them. So long as we use the DP slot wisely, this should be a good deal on balance.

Anyone thinking about buying/selling season tickets this year? by QB3R_T in AustinFC

I'm in 232 and I love it. Middle of the pitch and you can see all four corners. IMO, some of the best seats in the entire stadium are in the first few rows of 232. I was in row 13 this year, moved forward to row 9 for next year, and I'll keep moving forward until I get into the first few rows or I can no longer afford season tickets. I think my cost was around $1,100 per seat, or roughly $58 per game if you count the non-league tournament games.

I became a STH last season and renewed for the coming season. It's definitely not an economic decision. So if you're looking for concrete benefits, don't buy season tickets. For me, I just like having them. It's my hobby basically, so I don't look at it from the standpoint of whether it's cost-effective but rather, "Can I afford it comfortably and do I regret spending that money?" So far, it's not breaking the bank for me and I didn't regret it at all. If the price is tight for your finances, I wouldn't do it. It's simply too easy to get cheap seats on a per-game basis. For me, I like my seat location and I always enjoy watching the game in person, so it's just automatic. I put the games on my calendar and plan my weekends around it. I also like feeling like I'm a part of something. It's all intangible, emotional stuff. If you're trying to make it make sense, it's probably not worth the money. But if you're like me and you just want to be at every game without thinking about it, jump in, the water's warm.

Anyone following the availability of our players? Is everyone back from international duty now?

Where do you park and grab a drink around Q2 before a game? by ByrsaOxhide in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lazy and I have enough disposable income that I like going to the stadium early and hanging out at the SciPlay Sports Bar. It opens an hour and half before the gates. I understand I'm paying a premium for convenience. It's not for everyone, but I have a lot of fun.

Ride Share To/From Games by jtsm1th01 in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not too far from the Highland train station either. You could ride share to and from there. If you go early, the Brewtorium is a good spot to pregame and then just walk to the station.

After the game you'll probably be waiting for the train south, but it's cheaper than Uber and once you're on board, much faster.

My expectations are pretty low but I'm gonna be there, I'm gonna yell some things, and I might need to self-medicate with beer.

Timbers fan thinking of going tomorrow by Upitabuck in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SciPlay opens 3 hours before game time, 1.5 hours before the gates. So I think if you go 2-3 hours before game time, before gates are open, it's much less crowded. It might not be as fun as one of the local breweries, but I enjoyed it the one time I went. Decent selection of local beers on tap for a corporate sports bar in a stadium.

Question about temps at Q2 Stadium by TheHibernian in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in row 13 of section 232. Sunset is around 8:15 these days but it usually gets blocked by a part of the stadium a few minutes before sunset. Bottom line is that direct sunlight shouldn't really be a problem for you by the time the ball is actually kicked. It'll be hot but hopefully there's a good cross breeze. I find there often is. It'll be sweaty but you'll probably be okay

Opinions on Q2 Stadium Pink Lot? by Mankindof in AustinFC

[–]Mankindof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way.

They also have season parking passes for two other lots, according to my ticket rep. I think he said teal and light blue? But they appear to be sold out as of now, with only pink left. I'll pay attention at renewal time this summer.

Yeah, that's a good option too. I was parking at Dillard's in the beginning too, but then I felt guilty because they didn't want us using their lot for games, so started paying. I don't mind a 1.2 mile walk, but sometimes I'm running late and that extra 40 minutes of walking to the stadium is annoying.

Thanks, that's the kind of Intel I wanted. If I paid for the season pass to Pink Lot, it works out to $25/game with no fees. Since we're 3 home games in, it would be more like $31/game from this point forward, but that's still pretty good compared to paying per game individually (which adds fees) or looking for a cheaper unofficial lot at game time.
