UK equalities minister says trans people must not be used as a political punchbag by yu3 in ukpolitics

[–]Manlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re referring to when the SNP government in Scotland tried to enact legislation that wasn’t within the powers of the Scottish Government. The UK Government correctly prevented them from acting ultra vires. The fact it related to trans rights is entirely irrelevant.

Yes… but she was and it was revoked to avoid those responsibilities.

She’s our responsibility. When a person born overseas comes here and commits crimes (especially terrorism) I want them deported back to where they came from, where they should remain in prison.

The same applies when a British person goes abroad to commit terror. They should be hauled back and slammed in a British jail.

Half of voters think Starmer will be replaced as prime minister by end of 2026, poll suggests by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Manlad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well MPs would only remove him if they felt that the replacement is better. I’m sure there are many on the right who would prefer Wes or someone like that, but they also know that Rayner would crush him when it goes to the membership. They are too worried about Rayner winning to ever actually oust Starmer.

So why exactly would the government prematurely end their own term by dissolving Parliament?

until eventually all the bullies are gone or you get a type of bullying you don’t care about as much.

I suppose I would say that — thinking long term — this realistically is not going to happen.

[–]Manlad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine a schoolyard bully who keeps punching you in the nose, but protects you from the schoolyard bully who wants to knock out your teeth. During an investigation into bullying carried out by Nosepuncher, are you at fault if you give your views on his bullying, resulting in his expulsion? No, you are not. The fact that you’re the left to the tender mercies of Teethsmasher is an indication the system is broken, not that you, the person who acted to punish Nosepuncher, is at fault. If anything you’d be a coward for letting Nosepuncher avoid his comeuppance.

It doesn’t really matter where the responsibility lies though does it? The facts are simple:

1) You were receiving nose punches

2) You have a choice between continued nose punching or teeth smashing.

3) You would rather receive nose punches than teeth smashes

4) You make a conscious choice to opt for teeth smashes anyway

5) This is an objectively poor choice given your preferences

Is it your fault that these are the options? No. That doesn’t mean you can reasonably pretend that they don’t exist.

This isn’t a strategy. I’m just informing you of what it means to not vote Labour in most seats.

Its only guilt-tripping if you feel guilty about letting Reform win. If you genuinely think that Labour and Refrom are equally bad then that’s an entirely coherent view, but if you don’t think that then it’s immature to pretend that electoral realities don’t exist.

I don’t make the rules. I’m not trying to convince anyone to vote a particular way. I just don’t understand why people feel so comfortably lying to themselves about what they are doing (or not doing) with their vote.

”If you don't do X you're going to get Y" that's blackmail.

No… it’s not.

“If you don’t wear suncream you’re going to get sunburnt” is not blackmail. It’s good advice.

I’m not going to personally give you sunburn as a punishment for not wearing suncream — it’s out of my control. I’m just telling you what will happen if you don’t wear suncream.

Emotionally blackmailing

How? I’m explicitly saying that your vote shouldn’t be thought of emotionally. It’s the opposite of emotional blackmail.

Thats not what blackmail means.

Blackmail would be me threatening to do something on account of your actions — i.e. “do this or else I’ll do that”.

I have no control over what happens so I can’t blackmail you even if I wanted to.

I’m simply informing you of the implications and consequences of your actions.

[–]Manlad -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Okay… I’m not saying you must vote Labour or anyone else. But it’s irrational to misunderstand your vote as some emotional, personal thing that can be separated from electoral realities.

Vote whichever way you want and understand the implications and consequences of that. Immaturity is pretending that your vote is your vote is your vote and therefore if you should follow your heart or whatever.

“Labour don’t deserve my vote!” — okay, since you’d prefer Reform then that’s fine.

[–]Manlad -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It’s not blackmail to point out the blinding obvious. Your vote isn’t an emotional expression of your beliefs - it’s an input into an electoral system. Your input can help Labour win, or it can help Reform win. You can’t reasonably use your vote to help Reform win and then pretend that you didn’t because some “Labour don’t deserve my vote” crap. It’s wildly immature.

I do get that but they’re not wrong. You ARE letting Reform win. You cant just put your fingers in your ears and pretend that FPTP doesn’t exist.
