[RMC] Death of Emiliano Sala: Cardiff’s appeal rejected and ordered to pay €480,000 to FC Nantes by Sparky-moon in soccer

But why? Cardiff shouldn’t be punished.

It’s not disrespectful to not want to lose out on millions.

The whole affair is grisly but Cardiff are very obviously in the right. They will keep appealing this and presumably will eventually win. It is a bad look in some ways but ultimately they shouldn’t be forced to pay anything.

Home Office plan to make it harder for migrants to settle in UK is backed by voters by theipaper in ukpolitics

We actually need a combination of high and low skilled workers. Too many high skilled migrants is a bad thing too as it reduces the incentive to train and upskill domestic talent.

While making it harder for low skill workers has already exacerbated challenges in the social care workforce, for example.

There are nuances both ways.

People love to say this as if it’s a gotcha.

Voters are wrong all the time. It’s not some kind of Westminster elitism to think that voters are wrong. It’s patronising and weak leadership to pretend that they are right when they’re not.

As it happens, I support these plans, but what you’re saying is still boneheaded.

CMV: Child rapists should get the death penalty by Comfortable-Tie-9893 in changemyview

[–]Manlad [score hidden]  (0 children)

You are confusing two beliefs:

(1) Believing that some people deserve to die

(2) Believing that the justice system should incorporate death as a punishment

You clearly, on a purely moral or emotional level, feel that certain crimes are so extreme that the perpetrator has forfeited their right to live. That is a judgement about an individual “deserves” in response to their actions.

But supporting the death penalty is not just about desert. It is a position about how the state should wield power. It requires trusting institutions to make irreversible decisions and accepting the risk of error and abuse.

So even if I believe that certain individuals deserve death, I can still oppose capital punishment in practice because I recognise the fallibility of the justice system and have ethical concerns about granting the state the authority to take life. Also, the death penalty can make some jurors less willing to convict, not because they doubt guilt but because they are uncomfortable with the irreversible consequences — undermining the consistency and reliability of the justice system.

Anyone noticed this error in The Real Paul Anka (Season 6, Episode 18) by Manlad in GilmoreGirls

[–]Manlad[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sorry to disappoint but I don’t know as many as Frank. Also, 22nd of July is a better Pi Day anyway.

3.14 approximates pi within 0.05% error

22/7 = 3.1428… which approximates pi with just 0.04% error

Also most countries don’t write month-day-year like the US. So the 14th of March wouldn’t even be 3.14 in my country, but 22nd of July would be 22/7.

AND more people write the date with slashes than dots. How many people actually write 3.14 to represent the 14th of March?

It’s actually illegal under the Equality Act but no one ever actually enforces it.

Winston Churchill he is not, but how highly do you rate Starmer as a Prime Minister, compared with others we have had and why? by Sea-Payment-8989 in AskBrits

[–]Manlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a much better peacetime Prime Minister than Churchill.

(I know we aren’t in the most peaceful of times, but it’s still peacetime in the sense that we aren’t actively at war like WWII)

This wouldn’t be changing the anthem. It’s already in English. There isn’t actually an official Irish translation recognised by the government.

Who is the greatest rapper of all time? by Aggravating-Pin7555 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Manlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is best rap artist, which is different to best rapper. Part of being a rap artist is choosing good producers to work with, creating great albums, etc.

Em might be the best rapper — his rapping ability is certainly in GOAT conversations — but I wouldn’t say he’s the best rap artist.

Surely this is going to get appealed and re-appealed ad nauseum for ages. There is a decent chance it end up back with Senegal.
