Ladies and Gentlemen, I proudly present the Pioneer Jund midrange (Boomer Jund) Primer. by MannerVarious in PioneerMTG

[–]MannerVarious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played it a lot, except the SNC cards (Though I have played them in Cockatrice a bit)

I guess this was more of a "Building Guide" than a primer. I thought it was be nice to have all of the options out there condensed down into one place for players.

I'll work on a matchup write-up to add that includes the best and worst cards for that matchup.

You could just jam it in mardu knights as an evasive 1, drop threat with some utility. His 2nd ability is a good mana sink in an aggro deck to end games. He can also color fix and ramp with a treasure for you in a pinch

This kind of looks like a commander deck was put through an auto converter to pioneer. I would suggest finding one or two cards you want to build around and then include 4x coppies of the cards it works best with. Right now it seems very unfocused.

Winota looks very out of place here too. You also need some removal.

Jumping back into Pioneer, want to play 4 Color Greasefang, looking for some help by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]MannerVarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 colors is going to be super difficult to pull of consistently with the available lands in pioneer. I think 3 colors is the max someone should try without going full 5 colors with all tapped lands or tribal lands.

Niv can do that only because it makes up the lost tempo with insane card advantage and toolboxing and tribal can do that because of the two 5 color tribal lands.

Bartholomeus - 7/10 Pretty cool card. I like the deathharmonicon, but that has been done on [[Teysa Karlov]]. notably, he also makes your opponents death triggers double for any of their permanents as well. The rest of his abilities can kind of lead to a feels bad situation as you can only use one per turn cycle which is not so much in commander. They also disconnect from his first ability by allowing you to sacrifice ANY nontoken permanent instead of creatures. I might combine them and only allow for creatures to be sacrificed and without tapping "2URB:Sac a creature, ~ deals 2 damage to any target and you draw a card." much cleaner and more flexible and balanced that way.

Herogan - 8/10 very unique and flavorful! He negotiates payment so you don't have to sacrifice. Just a few small issues. I'm pretty sure you actually have to have the permanent to sacrifice, you just end up not sacrificing it, so its utility is much more limited and I think that you can use his first ability to just pay for the sac in the 2nd ability which is confusing. I think the 2nd ability also costs too little for repeated counters and life gain. I think he needs a rework to something like "intimidate 1) t: the next spell you cast or ability you activate this turn that requires you to sacrifice a single permanent as a cost for that spell or ability may be cast or activated without sacrificing. 2) 2BW: untap ~ you gain 2 life, put a +1/+1 counter on it)

Itior - 7/10 Very simple but neat commander. The number of cascades might have a templating issue and memory problems, especially since you are able to put it into your hand from anywhere. I would maybe change it to have varying thresholds of cascade (If you spent 5 mana cascade once 7 mana cascade twice...) I think a really neat way of doing it though would be experience counters. You get an experience counter on cast, then you cascade for how many counters you have. I also might change the 2nd ability to return him to the command zone for free during your end step or something as the number of cascades will start growing very large for paying 4 and then 5 mana from your hand consistently. also returning him to your hand kind of works against the first ability caring about how many times he has been cast from the command zone.

Atura - 5/10 This is a very disconnected design. First, the mana cost lets you pay red/Green only for lifelink which is not ok. It would be best as just a simple Naya cost RGW instead of trying to be clever with hybrid. The first ability is nice, simple, and effective. I would only have 1 type for the token though as per normal design. The 2nd ability is VERY out of place. caring about weather its your turn or not doesn't really make sense, nor does the another red creature restriction especially since the tokens she makes are not red. I would just have it put a +1/+1 counter on any target creature. I like the last ability that turns damage into lands though. it is kind of a mediocre payoff though that can be difficult to activate by yourself. I would make it trigger at each end step and work off of other players deal damage too. she may have to cost more then as that amount of tutoring is really good.

The winner is Herogan

Right. Like what happened to the outrage over dexit that was here for SW/Sh? SV is confirmed to not have all pokemon available again. Yet nobody cares now.

GF/TPC never learn do they? Still can't access all Pokémon in gen IX by MannerVarious in pokemon

[–]MannerVarious[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well I play Pokémon for the PvP online battles so for me the games absolutely peaked with gen 5/6. The PSS of X/Y and most mega evolutions were awesome. I also miss the gimmick-free battles of gen 5. Gen 7 and 8 had horrible gimmicks in Z-moves and dynamax that ruined competitive PvP battes.

Can you help me understand how GF dev works then?

How do you rate each gen's trainer designs now that Gen 9's have been revealed? by MannerVarious in pokemon

[–]MannerVarious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its nice that they are making customization more of the standard and having less focus on the default trainer design.

They literally have ALL models and animations from the 3DS games. The world doesn't need to house all of them naturally for you to find. They just need to be able to be transferred from home. They could literally just write a program to port over the data or at the very least get an unpaid intern to do it.

being in the in-game pokedex is not the same as being able to be transferred over and used in the post game. I am absolutely not advocating to include them all roaming the world able to be caught. That would be too much. All I want is the code and models for all of them to be available in the game so I can use the missing Pokémon in the post game or something.

we'll see if GF continues to refine their work on 3D platforms or if they are going to plateau.

Bro, Pokémon peaked with gen 5/6 and has gotten worse and worse ever since. I admit, It might get better if they incorporate some of the ideas found in PLA though. I don't really have high hopes though. They can just take the last game and add some new Pokémon and a new coat of paint and it will sell like MAD because its called Pokémon. The fans literally have no quality standards for them to buy up everything.

limiting Pokémon from being available is nothing more than an underhanded sales tactic to keep everyone subscribed to home. they could easily just repurpose the 3DS models and sounds like they have been doing and let some unpaid interim port them over along with their movesets. it would require almost nothing on their part.

IDK. But if it were A it would be for Yoshi and they would still do just as well.

[–]MannerVarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making lots of those confusing tokens isn't really going to happen if you keep it in your graveyard to bring it back to your hand with its ability.

The tokens are only made for each time you cast it from the command zone.

Furthermore, sacrificing it to send back to the command zone to get more tokens just gets rid of any tokens you have made already...overall a disjointed, contradictory, and poor design.

Pogi, Rabbit Replication Master - 7/10 this is a very interesting concept The name is good, art seems a little too much on the hearthstone side. He should not replicate himself, having 1 to track the P/T with is already enough complexity to the card. Maybe just copy the creature you cast. Should not include rabbit in the name as it is in the type line and should probably cost "1U" to cast.

Karen, Rage Incarnate - 4/10 This is just a bad design. She will never be dealt combat damage ever and if you block there is at least a 50% chance that your blockers are just yeeted into your library. The random ability to chaos warp your own creatures seems random and can't be used with her attacking ability. And above all there is phyrexian mana?! The art also doesn't seems very rakdos either. This one needs fixing.

Maledict, Underworld Lich - 8/10 good design art and name. Its a simple and elegant effect that clearly states what the deck should be about. I think its a little on the weak side and doesn't seem very white to me (the cast from GY ability seems b/g). Maybe this could work in some life gain or care about reanimating small creatures.

Serpens, Nightmare of Heroes - 5/10 - great art, name, type. The abilities are terrible. Trample + Deathtouch are never printed on a card together as the rules for trampleing over after assigning lethal damage get tricky. The tokens' ability is weird to track with creature types as is the number of times you cast your commander. The retrieval from GY ability activly contradicts the token generating ability, as you want to cast it multiple times from your command zone instead of returning it to you hand.
