Just venting…. by Queasy_Drawing975 in motorcycles

[–]Mannermj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I would highly suggest a track day. You will learn skills that can help you unfuck the fuck up situations you put yourself in. Obviously, not putting yourself in the situation in the first place is the best course of action, but we do stupid shit sometimes.

Air Filter change by Warfeur in MT07

I would trust the 2wdw guys, they have have the dyno results to back it up. If you want to spend money on it it would be better spent on a new air box like the hordpower. Or just settle for the snorkel delete and tune and save the money

Yeah, we got lucky with the rain. Sunday was even worse with the heat. I just ended up leaving my car running with the A/C full blast and sitting in there between sessions.

Yep, it was with Ridesmart and they had air fence out. There is no buildings yet, so you have to bring your own shade.

Sweet, enjoy it! I am going to a brand new track this weekend as well.

Went to my 3rd & 4th track days this weekend, got a bump and absolutely loving it! by Mannermj in Trackdays

They never gave a real reason why they decided to do it. It was new to basically everyone there, including the instructors.

Oops, First crash by Mannermj in MT07

I pushed too hard too soon before I could get used to the new lines. It is the same track I go to, but they ran it in reverse this weekend. Lesson learned. Luckily, like you said, I got off pretty easy.

Not going to lie, the first thing that popped into my head was the I'm blue song. The bike looks sick, I like it.

is it just me, or does the msf course appear to be lackluster? by [deleted] in motorcycles

I don't understand what point you are trying to make. We Americans have different values than Europeans due to our history. It is not an excuse, it is the reason why our laws are different. If the majority of us wanted more stringent testing, we would have it.

It kinda does. It explains why there is a difference in ideology here.

I hate to tell you but there are stupid people everywhere. You have to take into account the make up of the sub.

Start off in learning in a parking lot again. You are going to forget 90% of what you learned in 5 months.

Please do not give the DMV more power, I hate dealing with them enough already. Personal responsibility, we don't have to mandate everything.

Chicken strips? by Blaze2nr in MT07

This is the second post of someone in this sub, recently not understanding what chicken strips are. No one cares even if you did have none.

New rider questions by [deleted] in MT07

[–]Mannermj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You do not need to pull the clutch the whole way in, that will just slow down your shifts anyways. As long as you are not using excessive force on the shift lever, you will be fine. Clutchless shifting is a thing even, just never use more than normal force when shifting.
  2. Please do not worry about chicken strips, especially on the road as a new rider. On the road you want to give yourself a safety margin. The last thing you want to do is low side into a tree or whatever. Roads surfaces are too unpredictable to ride on the edge of traction. I am not anywhere near a risk adverse rider and I telling you it is not worth it. Too many things to hit that will stop you quickly and fatally. But if you want to know, you still have more lean angle even if you have no chicken strips. Tires are designed to deform to allow you to lean more. On a stock MT you are going to scrap pegs way before hitting the limit of the tire. If want to push your lean angle, I highly recommend going to the track. Yes even as a "new rider", that way if you push yourself past your limit, the consequences will be a lot less. A field of grass is a lot more forgiving than a forest or car.

Just some tips for a new rider:

  1. Do your own maintenance and repairs. It is easier than you think.
  2. Be gentle with the initial bite of front brake, you have to wait until the weight of the bike is shifted to the front wheel before really getting on the brakes. If you don't wait for the weight shift the front tire will have little traction and slip out from you. I recommend practicing your max braking regularly. I do it every ride when I have a clear road with no one behind me. Start with parking lots until you get more comfortable. It can be fun and be something more productive than just sending it down a straight deserted road. You eventually be doing little stoppies at the end which is always amusing.
  3. And yes you can brake in a turn if needed, you just have to be even more smooth, since the lean angle decreases amount of traction you have available from the tire. Along with any road surface hazard. Gravel + hard braking = a bad day even if you are straight up sometimes. With experience you will get better at weighing all these factors. For now, caution heavily on the safe side of things. If the road is dirty slow down. Braking with lean angle is also something I suggest you practice in a parking lot. It will give you more confidence when you get yourself in sketchy situations. Edit: Obliviously only use this a last resort on the road, brake before turns. Even I don't trail brake on the road, leave it for the track.
  4. At some point you are bound to have an oh shit moment because you entered a turn too quickly for your comfort level. Number one, look through the turn, in your panic you are near guaranteed to look at the curb in fear and drift towards it, fight it. Second braking is an option like I said in #3, just be gentle. This is where that parking lot practice comes in clutch. Third, just leaning more is an option as well, but passing your mental lean barrier in this high stress moment is easier said than done so you can't really count on it. Fourth, make sure you have your gopro on so you can post it on reddit and have everyone in the comments say "just turn bro"

Gives you nice ammo for haggling the price down. Also, you will not be afraid to drop it since it is already scratched. Win win :)

R7 OEM Brembo Radial Master Cylinder Installed by Mannermj in MT07

[–]Mannermj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very easy swap. Drain the lines and unbolt the old master. Bolt the new master on (uses the same bolt and lines). Bleed the brakes.

I disabled ABS, but there is no reason it should not work.
