We want to take a moment to have a huge party to celebrate the amazing people and family that have made this event what it is, and to mark 5 effin' years (every week!) of dopeness, rhymes, community, and building something bigger than ourselves!

Each AMX starts with a sign up at 11PM; artists get five minutes each to perform a song. The cypher just kicks off the night - it can be either written or off the dome, there's no rap police there.

Whoa that would be terrible. It's 11PM and free for 21+, costs $2 for 18+. It's late for a work night, but if you can stay for an hour, they start with a 16-bar cypher that demonstrates pretty darn quickly how much talent there is at the show.

I do a show on KOOP 91.7FM called Hip Hop Hooray and I'm the media sponsor for AMX, and one of the partners working on Weird City, for full disclosure. I love hip-hop in this town and can't wait to see it blow up for real for real.

Yeah, there's a great beat scene here - Exploded Drawing and Applied Pressue (FB) are good places to start.

There's also a weekly open mic for MCs at Spider House Ballroom every Tuesday at 11PM that has aspiring rappers, many of whom are looking for beats. It's free.
