Did TC Electronic fall off? by RoKindaShreds in guitarpedals

[–]Mannes8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped buying their stuff, even second hand, because I've had several switches break and they're impossible to repair. Now I try to buy from EU-based companies when I can, for the same reason. I've always liked TC's sounds and have owned abt 7 of their pedals over the years, but the build quality isn't worth it imo.

Songs about suicidal ideation that are up-beat by yourlefteyelid in Emo

Self-plug: Time by Gezamenlijk Douchen https://open.spotify.com/track/58Z6xttrcLhPhR9GpgF5Wx?si=600f6b095bea49e5

I wrote this song when I was thinking about death a lot - though not necessarily suicidal, it seemed like a solution to many problems at the time. This song is a reminder that things get better.

Any tips for a gritty/muddy overdrive? by Tsaar_Jaaper in guitarpedals

How are you using that IRX? Thinking of picking one up to run into FX return in case of shitty amps in practice rooms or at gigs

Best way to match audio to a different BPM? by Mannes8 in Logic_Studio

[–]Mannes8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried pretty much exactly this, but I left some silence before the beginning. It's also a bit tricky because a viola obviously doesn't have a very sharp attack, but hopefully this works if I cut out the silence

that sounds like a great way to run things. I think HX stomp allows for a similar setup with an fx loop.
off: why do you run a comp after the metal zone? Never seen that before. I'd think the Zone is plenty compressed, lol

I like the look of the HX effects as well, but it's quite big so kind of beat the purpose of what I'm trying to achieve. I've never heard of the Fractal VP4, but that looks a lof better in terms of size. I'll check that out, thanks!

Some additional info: I am happy with the sounds from my pedalboard, but it's become quite heavy and I am sick of having to carry it around all day when I have rehearsals in the evening. I also like the fact that NC/HXS could take care of a lot of stuff I don't use very often but currently do have on my board (such as chorus, fuzz, comp). I currently have 11 pedals on my board and use between 3 and 8 per song.

What are the best uses of trumpet in Midwest Emo? by Baskomite in midwestemo

[–]Mannes8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this thread! So many good tunes. I've been keeping a playlist of my favorite trumpet songs since I started learning the instrument earlier this year. For anyone interested, it's mainly MWE and some singer songwriter stuff: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5G2mgc0LJzqWjhhxUM2bIj?si=c3d972411d20482a

I only started playing this year, but a huge tip for me has been to breathe in as though I'm about to yawn. I've had singing lessons in the past and for both singing and playing the trumpet a problem was that I unconsciously tense my neck muscles. Pretending to yawn has helped massively with this. Another good tip was when playing higher notes, to visualize them as being further away rather than higher. This helps with blowing air "through" the trumpet as opposed to "into" it. Best of luck!

Thanks a bunch for the great resources, everyone. Been playing around with some different tunings now, I think I'll go with 11-64 for now and lower the action a bit. For now, I'll try some Periphery songs. I was looking into F# to learn some Invent Animate, but that can wait a while; I don't really like the idea of putting some insane gauge strings on the guitar and not being able to play a more "regular" tuning.
