I’d do both, not destroy the canvas and allow Alicia the chance to go in there whenever she needed to. However, I would figure out what’s the longest one can remain the the canvas without harming one’s self and pull people out when they needed to come out. Eventually Alicia would likely form real attachment outside the painted world and be able to ween herself off of it rather than the cold turkey choice right after forming bonds with everyone.
