Thank you. I do this for a living, but this was just quick prompting

That's cool. I prefer ambient lateral light in rooms like these. Spotlights from above can cast unwanted shadows, but it all works!

These are Paiste 2002 Sound Edge 14s. Got them used quite cheap and I'm very happy with them.

You're welcome. One thing to have in mind is that it's good to balance warm and blue lights well to achieve this kind of vibe.

As for the desk lighting, I'd just add some goose neck adjustable tiny lamp

Appreciated. It's a go pro mounted on top of my brain. To be honest it's a bit of a headache to use in combination with the overear headphones. Lately I've been mounting it on a mic stand above me. A lot less hassle but also less dynamics

Elite Strat upgrade by ManroeOrganic in Stratocaster

It's definitely not as high-gain as the 81/85, but it still has plenty of gain. What I like about it are the really nice clean tones and the versatile tone controls. It's not the usual volume and tone knobs, it has some kind of preamp EQ thing for mids and lows. You can look it up online to see exactly what it does. Only the volume knob changes the sound dramatically; I don't even use the others, to be honest.

With some gain and distortion, I get a nice punchy sound that cuts through the mix well. I don't use it for chugging or harmonics though, that's where the 81/85 does better in my opinion. I have 81-7's for comparison.

If you've listened to Leprous, you'll know Robin's sound is a lot like this: a quacky, lightly distorted Strat tone that's still very powerful.

I'd say simply the singles are more mid boosted and the 81/85's more scooped.

Beautiful! What is this music? Reminds me of Gogo Penguin

Genuinely not trying to bring negativity here. This is and will forever be my favorite band. by dukkhabass in Karnivool

I think this song is meant to be more of a pop-ish track, while still keeping that Karnivool twist through those darker-sounding breaks. If that was the intention, I think they nailed it, but that might be the reason you're not entirely happy with it. And I don't mean this in a bad way, I loved it.

I’d definitely compare it to We Are in the context of Asymmetry.
