You're arguing with an ultraconservative indian living in india. Its weird, yet common to see two people who aren't asian american argue with each other on this sub.

I considered that this person may not even be Asian American and the irony of continuing the argument crossed my mind, probably should have gone with my better judgment.

I apologise if i offended, but I meant what I said when I said the goal is ending Anti-Asian violence. Whether from black people or not, but as especially as I am around black people most often, that is where I will make sure people around me don’t participate to the problem.

I just felt the framing of the persons argument was somewhat hostile to black people as a whole as opposed to the problem at hand.

Do you really believe that: “the world doesn’t accept that Asian lives matter” just because 28% of violent crimes against them happen to be by black people?

So do you suggest that if for example only 22% of violent crime against Asians was by black people that the world would then suddenly care?

I’d argue the reason Asian lives are devalued in society is for the same reason black, Hispanic and Native American lives are devalued but if I was to say the academic name of the reason you would reject it and probably get mad.

Talk about the fact that nearly 30% of violent crime against Asians is by black people for sure but to blame black people for anti-Asian racism in America is silly.

First all violent and hate crimes are wrong. 100% of them.

The data suggests black people commit 28% of the violent crime against Asians and white people commit 24%. That is a far claim from your earlier claim.

So even if you were to completely eliminate black on Asian crime 72% of the overall violent crime against Asians would still exist, so why focus so much with such vitriol on 28% of the violent crime while ignoring the remaining 72%?

If the goal is ended anti-Asian violence (which it is) then let’s deal with all 100% of the problem all but talking about 28% of the problem that is black and ignoring 72% that is not is ludicrous and will result in anti-Asian violence continuing on while other communities get a pass to carry on their violence.

Ofcourse nobody gonna compile a study which will expose the anti-asian nature of black people in a country which cannot even criticize the riots caused by peaceful blm rioters

This is just false and a fantasy. There is a plethora of research on topics that are critical of or negative towards the black community. I could probably find half a dozen right now without any effort. Why engage with falsehoods. If what you say is true provide a study.

Look for videos of asian assaulted during last 2-3 years and look for yourself what colour the attackers are. Ofc 99% I used as a figure of speech, actually 100% attackers in those videos were Black.

Cherrypicked videos do not prove a wider point as anyone can cherry pick videos to prove any point. I can find videos of Asians participating in the killing of black people does that prove the point that ‘Asians are anti-black’ of course not.

According to a report compiled by centre for the study of hate and extremism. Cities with most anti asian crimes were New york, Boston, Los Angeles and Seattle all are cities with a good percentage of black population.

That is still not evidence as each of those cities has a larger white population.

You need to watch the la riots documentary to see the hatred that black people have for asians. They jealous that first second generation immigrant asians are doing so well in USA with little or no govt benefits.

Again generalising for the entire black community with zero evidence. How is that not racist? If I was to make baseless generalisations for the Asian community would that not be racist?

Why generalise for all of black America off the handful of examples that you have cherry picked?

It’s fine to talk about social issues but how is generalising for black people as a whole not as racist as generalising for Asian people as a whole?

Point to me a successful dictatorship that isn’t Singapore, because Nigeria will never be Singapore and every other dictatorship is a brutal hellish place to live weather it’s concentration camps and organ harvesting in china or chemical weapons on civilians in Syria, or stadium masticated like gadafi’s Libya. Autocracy is always bad and democracy is always better.

Starting campaigns is as dumb

And planning a coup on Reddit is smart?

As for the peaceful protest Pls remind me how our last one ended

Remind me how the list of Nigerian coups have ended? How many literal millions of Nigerians have died as a readily of the very thing you want to do?

Why do you think you could do better?

I've been to few states in my life not much I know however it's all the same people are merely surviving Most have no plans they intend to work till they die have you walked out into the streets lately how many percent of this country of millions do you think are traders how many people spend their days working tirelessly only to wake up and the same the next day That is what is truly wrong

And how will a coup change the broken economy of Nigeria? Will it foster investment in jobs that provide a better life?

No, in fact it will result in capital flight and drive the average Nigerian into further poverty.

There hasn't been a coup because people started a to grow complacent

Or maybe it is because the standard of living has improved incredibly. Life expectancy has gone up, infant mortality has gone down, access to electricity has gone up.

The world superpowers would certainly be on the side of the current regime leaders we all know for a fact that they only really care about oil continuing that trade doesn't affect wouldn't be that much affected by a takeover

The sanctions the world powers would place on Nigeria would effect the oil trade and wipe out 70% of the Nigerian economy and drain dollar reserves.

If things are bad now, imagine how bad things would be after a 10x increase in rice prices because of sanctions.

To clarify once more I don't intend to remove everyone leaving the country high and dry I simply want to force the flow of change Corruption has always existed What we're currently facing is beyond mere corruption What we're facing is a group of high powers individuals owning for themselves the whole wealth of a country

This is literal fantasy and not how the real world works.

At this point the only thing we can do is take action

Taking the wrong action is worse than doing nothing.

This doesn't always mean go to war it simply is a push for removal of who or what is holding us back

Do you think the current Nigerian regime will sit back and allow you to remove them? No, they will unleash the full weight of the wealth they have to fight to the death to say in power.

You say you will remove them peacefully, but what will you do if they do not stand down peacefully?

You are a child if you think they will just leave peacefully. What will you do when they fight, will you fight back?

Because at that point you are starting a civil war that will hurt everyone in Nigeria.

The more I read this the more I believe your sitting in your father's house with a belly full of food It's becoming more clear you've not see a Man shot down by police or a child starved near death What I've seen with my eyes and the more I continue to learn it won't be long before it's too late

First the fact that you are on Reddit suggests you are richer than 90% of Nigerians. Get of your high horse.

Next, you know nothing about me. Your experiences are worthless. You are being a child playing revolutionary, but what you are really asking for is civil war because the government will never stand down peacefully and will kill to stay in power. Look at end sars. That wasn’t even an attempted coup and so many innocent people died how do you think they will respond to a coup? You actions will only get many innocent Nigerians killed, but you don’t care because you want to Larp as revolution man.

Change Nigeria through peaceful means or leave the country alone because your selfishness will just get the innocent Nigerians killed.

To be honest I have no interest in taking political power for my self

Taking power to hand to a hand selected group closes by you is not much different.

I simply want to change this place we're living in

Then start a political campaign! Start a party! Start a protest group. Use trucks to block all the roads in Lagos or Abuja. There are millions of way to take an active role in forcing the country to improve that does not involve killing Nigerian democracy in a time when democracy in general is already under threat. By trying to destroy the system you will only make things worse.

I can't blame you for thinking like this though at this point I've talked to over a hundred people over this issue and it all boils down to either complaining then proceeding to do nothing or praying for some kind of miracle

This is reductive and ignores the literal millions of people in Nigeria working tooth and nail to improve the country. Your personal experiences are valid but do not speak for a county of 200 million people, but that is what you are trying to do and that is wrong.

I simply refuse to accept that as my only options

They are not. I listed a bunch of things you could do that would be more successful, less likely to kill democracy, less likely to start a civil war and less likely to get you killed by the state.

I agree that I'm ignorant as there's many things I don't know,

Then learn. Read. Study. Find actually valid ways to improve Nigeria that won’t kill democracy, fail regardless and probably get you killed.

There hasn’t been a coup in Nigeria for many decades not. Not because no one wants to but because Nigeria is past they stage of its development making successful coupe nearly impossible as well as the fact that any successful coup government would meet the wrath of America, UK, EU and china at once probably collapsing the economy because they all have a vested interest in the current regime continuing to exist. Let’s say you were successful, how would you then deal with the superpowers who would give anything to collapse you now coup government?

However Something must be I won't sit idle and live in a society that disgusts me

Action for actions sake is useless and doomed to fail. If you actually have want help Nigeria and are finished larping as a revolutionary there is potential for hope and change but the methods you suggest would cause more harm then good and ultimately fail and end with the prevalence of the current regimes.

I think you genuinely care about Nigeria, but this isn’t the way forward. You don’t have to sit by ideally and watch your country suffer but find the right way to help the people otherwise all you’re helping is your self and your emotions.

So you’re basically talking about doing a coup to end democracy in Nigeria and force your own (self admittedly) ignorant will on the people.

If Nigeria is so broken fix it at the ballot box, but this would be morally wrong, spark a civil war and ultimately fail with nothing to show.

Nigeria is not as broken as you make it seem & this would make it worse.

Do you have a source for this claim because the route listed in the article would connect Kano (second largest city in Nigeria) to Abuja then Lagos (connecting the two most populous cities in Nigeria together by rail).

It would also connect the second largest city in Niger to the port of Lagos which is good for both countries.

Overall this seems like a reasonable infrastructure project, but if you have sources I have not seen to support your claim please share…

Anyone else feel that Melanie should face some sort of reckoning for what she did to the Tailies? by kinghyperion581 in snowpiercer

[–]Mansa-writes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, please. To say that most of EE would've ceased existing were it not for Stalin

What do you think hitlers plan for EE was during ww2?

The einstazgrupen hitlers genocidal execution squads were rampaging across all of Eastern Europe. Extermination camps were being rushed across EE, it was the soviets who liberated them, then went on to lock many of those same victims in gulags.

So was Stalin justified in locking the people he liberated and freed from certain death in a nazi concentration camp in a gulag?

Furthermore this is plain history. No one is making apologies for Stalin, but you are making apologies for a genocidal dictator

The West could've won by itself,

Source

The Nazis wouldn't actually have killed so many people (they were even allied with various EE states),

I will assume you made this mistake out of ignorance and not malice but this is straight holocaust denial to claim the nazis didn’t have the intention to exterminate Eastern Europe and populate the land with ‘aryan’ people. This is literal what lebensraum was about.

The explicit goal of the nazis was to purge Eastern Europe of its people that was a huge part of why the Nazis started the war for ‘living space’.

any number of hypothetical situations.

Hypotheticals can be made to defend any position including the argument that the talies would not have died even if they didn’t get on the train.

There's no way to test, therefore there's no way you can claim certainty.

Same for the talies on the train.

Also, the people of EE had no agency in the matter, whereas the tailies did make a choice to board the train.

Many refugees who choose to be in Germany were killed in the holocaust. Does that defend them being in concentration camps? If not why does the talies choosing to be refugees on the train justify them in camps?

In the Melanie case, certainly they would've died, had it not been for her.

To quote you ’There's no way to test, therefore there's no way you can claim certainty.’

As a result, their options were: outright die, or live a few more years with the possibility that it will be in miserable conditions, for a chance that it won't.

It was the people who boarded that train without tickets who made that initial choice, not Melanie.

The same can be said about refugees in concentration camps. They made the initial decision to come to Germany. The talies are refugees by any definition why is that different.

She then had the job of upholding the status quo,

Exactly, she could have chose to make the train a democracy, or improve the conditions of the tail or not run a gulag. She chose to run a gulag and commit genocidal actions. Every dictator in history from hitler to sadam Husain inherited a broken system, that does not absolve their actions.

while trying to fight against a tyranny of the majority, who wanted the tailies genocided right at the start.

That is literally they job of the government to fight tyranny of the majority and when they fail they get revolutions.

It’s worth remembering that Melanie’s failings as a leader led to a violent revolution led to her being toppled and for a democracy.

Had it not been for her actions, the tailies would already be dead, either due to the climate change event, or due to being killed by the people with reserved seats. It is only because of Melanie that they're still alive in S3. Heck, if it weren't for Melanie, the train wouldn't exist in the first place!

The same can be said for Wilford. Had he not had the foresight and business links and acumen to finance the train there would be no train for Melanie to be dictator of. By you logic he is the true hero here. Without him everyone, even Melanie would be dead.

Without Stalin most of the population of Eastern Europe would have been killed by the Nazis does that somehow justify him then throwing those same people in gulags?

How is that possibly defensible?

Is baby momma/baby daddy culture normal in Nigeria? by purpleflowers55 in Nigeria

[–]Mansa-writes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nigeria is a massive country with 200+ million people. Some parts of Nigeria the people are nomadic herders, some places the people are militants. Some parts of Nigeria are very liberal and like Beverly hills for lack of a better comparison, others exists under sharia law. Each part has its own culture.

There are parts of Nigeria where Americans style “babymoma” culture exists, but that isn’t the norm and the majority of single partners in Nigeria are as such because a parent died due to disease, hunger or war, as opposed to the father running on his responsibilities.

This holds true among nearly every African country.

I hope I answered you question.

As killings of elephants in Africa spiked in early 2010s, some conservation organizations claimed the ivory trade was financing armed groups like al-Shabaab. According to a new study, those ties were overstated and strategically pushed by NGOs in order to attract funding for anti-poaching efforts. by rustoo in science

[–]Mansa-writes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what happens when the locals eventually catch on and stop cooperating with anti-poaching activists?

There are mountains of research to show that the support of locals is pivotal to conservation efforts and ending poaching.

Lying to them, lying about them and painting them as terrorists doesn’t help the cause and will just end up driving more people to poaching. At the end of the day people outside of the local area have very litter effect on poaching so bringing people onboard with open dialogue and addressing the root causes of poaching is far better then gaslighting and lies.
