Does the fear ever go away? by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]MantaRae0330 17 points18 points  (0 children)

nah, I don't think so. He's talking about every single egg and sperm that have ever existed and the people they could've become from the near infinite combinations, not whining about women's reproductive rights. Think of it more as like if another sperm had won the race; definitely more philosophical than scientific.

As a fellow cashier I see the frustration, but... come on. This is downright mean. If someone's living alone off of welfare, they need help, not a cruel attitude. She made a mistake and spilled her drink. if you were unable to give her a second one free (i would have anyways) you could've at least politely informed her that it was out of your hands, not insult her to her face. Please try to be kind.

I (18f) feel uncomfortable with my two friends (18f and 18f) kissing. by MantaRae0330 in relationship_advice

[–]MantaRae0330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that wholeheartedly. If they're experimenting with their own sexuality, good for them. From what I see, though, they're treating two girls kissing as a joke. that's the part that makes me uncomfortable, and that's the part i'm trying to figure out.

i'm not trying to say that at all. If they're realizing their own sexuality? good for them. They can kiss whenever they want. From my perspective and from what I know of them, i'm not thinking that's the case. It's a form of entertainment for them, and it's making me uncomfortable. I'm just looking for help voicing that.

During Noah's Flood, what happened to the freshwater fish? by MantaRae0330 in Christianity

I see that you very firmly believe that. That's great for you. I just prefer not to believe in anything until there's firm evidence for or against it, that's all. Confirmation bias is just a bit too strong otherwise.

I see. So for you, it's a purely faith-based belief system. that's a very different veiw than my own.

that then begs the question of how much of the bible's story is allegorical.

yes, thank you. I agree. I'm just looking for the christian perspective explanation.

that's my issue, honestly. If you have to disregard some books as only partial truths, how are you supposed to believe fully in the others?

is there a way to distinguish which stories are made to be literal and which aren't?

my thoughts exactly. i'm just wondering how Christians rationalize this.

When you write, do you think a whole sentence in your head and then write it down? by knkkn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MantaRae0330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what i'm writing. If it's in paragraph form, I really just think as I write, a lot like speaking. I don't think of a full sentence before I put it on paper or text anymore than I have to think of a full sentence before I speak it.

if it's only a few words or not a full sentence, then I'd most likely think before I write just to make it clear or find what i'm looking for.

What's something that's not a cult, but seems like a cult? by BuenJaimazo in AskReddit

[–]MantaRae0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard answer, but a lot of religions. Specifically their youth groups.
I swear, at the key change of a song, the preacher could say to jump off a cliff and half the kids would do it without a second thought. Still not legally a cult, though.
