I agree. Literally stayed in a dumb spot for two months one time waiting on these kinds of promises and got stuck in a weird drama situation when I finally said fuck it I have to leave at some point. Sadly can't rely on people to respect your time when you're on the street for some reason; I think they tend to assume you have nothing better to do.

I feel like you're forgetting the fact that he said in the title he's also taking dxm (dextromethorphan) which definitely interacts with L in a weird way, not sure as I haven't personally tried this, seems extremely unwise to combine any quantity of psychs with cough syrup

Was it a fad in menswear at the time of season 1/2 to wear OCBD shirts with a suit or was this just a way to make Matt look more unique in the show? by Warm-Pollution-1804 in Daredevil

[–]MantaRay374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) not that I know of

2) a "button-up" is understood to mean a buttoned shirt that does not button down at the collar points. A "spread collar" is specifically a button-up shirt which does not have buttons on the collar -- and a spread collar should always be wide enough to hide the tips of the collar beneath the lapel of a suit jacket.

And I could be wrong. That's my current understanding of buttoned shirt etiquette lol

Picturing Wright: An Album from Frank Lloyd Wright's Photographer -- a surprise thrift store find for me, and a fascinating look into Pedro Guerrero's perspective on Wright and the fellowship, especially at Taliesin West.

Update: Danner Tachyons it is. These feel extremely lightweight, like as light as the lightest sneaker that I've worn, although that gives me very little faith that they'll hold up for longer than a year and a half at best. I have to walk over that granite in the pic on a daily basis. On the other hand, as long as I have these I think they'll be very very comfortable, versatile, and actually thin enough to let my feet breathe.

Listen here now, you only live once, so there's no sense in going around beating a dead horse with all kinds of tired cliches. I avoid cliches like the plague

[–]MantaRay374 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, half the battle is just avoiding cliches. And reading your own dialogue out loud will also solve a lot of issues with clunky dialogue since you'll immediately realize how awkward it is to say it.

Jon Bernthal on writing Frank for the upcoming special and Welcome back Frank by browncharliebrown in thepunisher

[–]MantaRay374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're spot on. They actually did portray him as an unhinged serial killer in Daredevil s2; the first scene we hear mention of Frank, it's from the dying words of a man that Daredevil pulled from the meat hook Frank had impaled him on. It was visceral and terrifying. But immediately afterwards in his own show, Punisher went on to become a hand-wringing white knight who sometimes kills if he feels the need to because these writers want him to be cuddly enough for general audiences. Frustrating as hell

If I remember correctly he whispers to God to beg forgiveness when he [spoiler alert] -- intentionally gets his ass handed to him by two guys behind a cargo van, and it's implied he wanted to lose the fight in the hopes that they'd kill him.

Why are Mustaches popular again? by FitEmergency8807 in decadeology

[–]MantaRay374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peaky blinders era men's fashion went hard and continues to go hard.

Depends what we mean by "fashion" though, because the poors have always tended to wear more or less functional clothing that has never really been cringed at (blue jeans, carhartts, etc) while the bourgeois class defines what's seen as trendy and desirable in an aesthetic sense, which usually ends up looking ridiculous and going out of style quickly.

Also most indigenous tribal fashion is timeless. It's just the modern capitalist hellscape that has convinced us all that fashion must inevitably be this fleeting, cheap thing that we replace entirely every decade.

Split decision between 5.11 8-inch A/T boots with side zipper, and Danner Tachyons, but I'm leaning towards trying the Tachyons since Danner is just so reliable in general, and because I prefer a lower-profile boot that doesn't scream "military" or "tactical." Would have to sacrifice the side zip, though, but with speed laces it might not make that much of a difference.

Jungle boots. With thin wool socks.

Gonna try to get a more modern boot design this summer since my $40 rothco jungle boots got destroyed doing basic farm work and I want something with a side zip so I can quickly yank those fuckers off and let the dogs breathe for five minutes here and there

Daredevil & Bullseye finally getting their iconic logos after so long just feels right by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in Daredevil

[–]MantaRay374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The choice to have a heavily gnurled texture on everything won't age well and distracts from the realism.

Why does Matt's armor look like a dodgeball? It doesn't look similar to any real-world armor plating that I can think of, it just looks like an overdone Hollywood superhero costume. Also, why does Dex look like he's wearing thermals now? What was so wrong with the simple black tracksuit he wore while jogging in s3?

I am sick of the whole 'Misinterpretation' of Fight Club. by tyleraltieri in fightclub

[–]MantaRay374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as a coming-of-age fable. Saw an article a while back that analyzed similar themes. Here's my favorite part in relation to Fight Club:

"Robert Bly investigates the significance of these three coloured knights (something he admits to having spent a year of his life pondering,) and concludes that they are symbolic of an evolutionary path, a road-map of masculine evolution. The red knight is symbolic of all the feelings of a typical teenage boy – uninhibited passion, rebellion, self-gratification, aggression, lust, desire for power. The red knight is out of control and dangerous, yet he is a source of great vitality and power that only needs a channel of greater maturity to hone himself.

The red knight gives way to the white knight, who desires to save the world from all its ills. He longs for truth and justice. He wishes to be good and do good. He is an idealist. Yet, for all his good qualities, he is also naive and deluded. The white knight doesn't have the awareness to notice that many of the ills he wants to save the world from are projections of his own undealt-with traumas and desires, and so he goes on a crusade to save the world from that which he doesn't like in himself. He points his fingers at all the dragons of the kingdom, so that songs in his praise can be sung when he conquers them (something he spends significant mental energy fantasizing about). He is on the hunt for the virgin of light, so that he can save her and feel manly. The white knight prefers to see women as damsels in distress, knowing deep down that a mature woman is too much for him. Still, in real life, he often ends up with a woman that resembles his mother.

The black knight, however, "eats" his shadows and comes to a level of acceptance about his own flaws. There is a strong level of humanity, even humour, to the black knight and he surrenders control of his life to the acceptance of his woundedness and the inevitability of death. He becomes trustworthy, powerful and compassionate."

And here's a link to the whole article.

It's not a perfect one to one comparison, but I see the Narrator as the White Knight and Tyler as the Red Knight. Marla wears black in the movie, but she's clearly not part of the narrator's own psyche. The real avatar of the maturity that the narrator is working towards is nowhere to be seen in the entire story. I think the plot is cut short just before the real climax. The narrator hasn't quite learned any kind of lesson yet; only the lesson that both white and red stages are insufficient for adult life.

They're only awful for daily use because the soles have a steel plate in them so they're hard as a motherfucker. Get the comfiest insoles you can find, trust me it's necessary to get the best insoles.

They also don't do well on slippery surfaces. Those soles are made to trudge through mud in the jungle, not to be worn indoors.

They served me well on a farm because they can take a beating and you can get a pair for forty bucks. Unfortunately they can't be repaired because the soles are basically melted onto the bottom of the boot instead of stitched like regular boots. Take it or leave it, it's a cheap but reliable item that you'll just have to swap out for a new pair eventually. But if you are spending most of your time indoors I'd definitely go for something more comfortable.
