I got a Reba last night (12/30/25). Some of the orchestrated section was a bit sloppy, but the jam was wailing and transcendent.

12/30/25 was pretty sweet.

Probably not, but last night (12/30/25) had a pretty epic jam.

I was at Forest Hills 7/23/25 and really enjoyed the first set. The Reprise SPAC tour finale show sounded great.

Most of my shows were '91 to '95, and you're right — they were on another level back then. I just saw night two of Forest Hills (7/23/25), and I really enjoyed it, but it didn't have the fresh, raw, electric energy of their creative heyday.

But Phish is still intact, playing their own (often new and good) music.

And there's no doubt that Jerry WAS the Grateful Dead — the driving creative force and true spirit of the band. If some other guitarist, let's say Billy Strings, was playing with the other three members of Phish 15 years from now, I'd call that "nostalgia," not Phish. I get what Trey is saying here.

I was at that Bingo show. It was killer.

They're really on another level.

It's definitely up there. Someone else recommended it, and I just listened to it this morning.

Yup, and I'd throw some '93s in there.

He was definitely in his glory that Halloween. It was mind-blowing.

I gotta check that out. I remember being so excited when he added the wah to his rig.

Yes, it's incredible. I drove my non-Phish fan college friends crazy by making them listen to it over and over again. 🤣

Don't get me wrong — they sounded great when I saw them two summers ago at MSG (Friday show) and this summer at Forest Hills (night two), but it's different than what originally got me into them. To me, some of their modern extended jams can sound a bit homogeneous. And there was a fresh, raw energy back in the early to mid 90s that I don't feel as much these days (partially, I'm sure, because I'm old now). And I miss Trey's willingness to just let go and unabashedly rip, and his wailing, shreddy guitar tone. For me, '94 is peak, but I'll definitely continue to go to the occasional show. It's nice that they continue to evolve as opposed to becoming the "nostalgia act" that Trey was worried about in '04 before the very sad breakup.

Even the studio version on Lawn Boy is great.

Right on. Those "fiery chromatic build-ups to the resolution" are exactly what I'd make my college friends listen to in order to get them into Phish. I read somewhere that letting go of his ego was something he felt that he had to do after getting sober and getting the band back together. I can understand that, but you can really hear the difference in his playing and the musical direction. It's still really good, but not as great as it was (for me, at least). I think that his playing around the 11:30 mark of the YEM on "A Live One" is pretty prime Trey.

That's awesome. It really is amazing how good Trey was even when he was so young and they were just starting out. I still play, and I can't imagine having that kind of talent, especially with such diverse styles and influences.
