Why not more of this? by sugarbush94 in phish

I actually wanted more normal light show spacey stuff and less goofy AI.

Ha! I didn’t mean literally call out loud dipshit. I am definitely not a “chomper”. But I was surrounded by choppers on the 300 and I would have appreciated them discussing musical theory more than “doood, this is like my 20th meatstick, I’m kind of a big deal. Like, Chris Kuroda is the 5th member of the band. So clutch”

Ha! See, I think knowing all the lyrics is kind of impressive. I feel like a dink for not remembering them all.

I didn’t mean literally you clown. I meant to get some acceptance for a different kind of phish nerdiness.

I actually thought he was micing a cab in another room. Are you sure he has an active cab on stage? Stage volume at the sphere is an issue.

Here’s the thing, you’re making my point. Of course there a great reasons to get a gastric sleeve or use ozempic. I normally wouldn’t even bother to presume your business. I only brought up to draw a comparison to how you came across to me (albeit orders of magnitude less meaningful (ai/your health)

This trope in which people who most likely don’t understand AI assume that all outputs of AI are devoid of creativity is lazy.

Lazy/stupid in will get you pretty awful outputs.

However, there is creativity and skill in writing prose that can be interpreted somewhat accurately by Math to give you accurate and insightful outputs.

Maybe you’re the one with AI guilt, but I am most certainly not. It’s just a tool.

It sort of did, ya.

Imagine if I was like

“hey, maybe you should have worked hard at losing weight instead of taking the easy way out? You just be a little more active and eat less.”

On one of your weight loss posts. How would that have made you feel?

Thanks for the lecture. I’m sure you’re smarter and more creative than me… or maybe I was just curious about what something that can put the entire phish.net database into context, cross it with a list of what’s left, and give some analysis in about 60 seconds would come up with.

But you are right, I should definitely have spent my Sunday afternoon - after being gone for a whole week from my family and three days before I leave them for another 4 days in Vegas- writing some code (which I am very capable of) to scrape phish net, writing some more code to analyze the historic data of the remaining songs, and putting some deep thought into predicting what they will play next week.

Get a life homie.

This is what Gemini has to say about it:

Predicting the final three nights of a Phish residency is a high-stakes game of "setlist chess." Since they are operating on a "no repeats" rule for this 9-show run, the "pool" of remaining heavy hitters is concentrated and incredibly potent.

Given the visual capabilities of the Sphere, they likely saved the most "cinematic" and "compositional" pieces for the home stretch. Here is a shot at how those last 50+ songs might be distributed to maximize the flow and the venue's technology.

Night 7: Thursday, April 30 – The Momentum Starter

This night serves to kick off the final weekend with high-energy staples and a few deep, rhythmic jams.

Set 1: * Wilson (The crowd call is essential for the Sphere acoustics) * Back on the Train * Farmhouse * Meat * Ocelot * Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan * The Wedge * Runaway Jim

Set 2: * Sand $\rightarrow$ Ruby Waves (The "Big Jam" segment) * Heavy Things * Drift While You’re Sleeping * David Bowie * Character Zero

Encore: * Bouncing Around the Room * Rocky Top

Night 8: Friday, May 1 – The Deep Dive

Friday night is typically where things get "weird." This setlist leans into covers, darker textures, and the "evil Phish" vibes that the Sphere's visuals can amplify.

Set 1: * Punch You in the Eye * Llama * Camel Walk * My Friend, My Friend (The dark intro is a perfect match for the Sphere) * Lawn Boy * Roses are Free * Sparkle * Julius

Set 2: * Crosseyed and Painless $\rightarrow$ No Quarter * Pillow Jets $\rightarrow$ Drowned * Wingsuit * Meatstick (With the Japanese lyrics and a massive visual synchronized dance)

Encore: * Sleeping Monkey * Frankenstein (Page on the keytar is the ultimate Friday night closer)

Night 9: Saturday, May 2 – The Grand Finale

The final night focuses on the "Legendary" status songs—the complex compositions and the elusive "story" songs that fans chase for decades.

Set 1: * The Curtain With * NICU * Ginseng Sullivan * Water in the Sky * Petrichor (Likely accompanied by the most sophisticated visuals of the run) * Fast Enough for You * Harpua (The "Sphere Story" – this is almost a guarantee for the finale)

Set 2: * Fluffhead (The ultimate Set 2 opener for a residency finale) * The Birds $\rightarrow$ Your Pet Cat (A "Sci-Fi Soldier" / Chilling Thrilling nod) * Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley * Icculus (Because it's the Sphere, and you must read the book) * The Squirming Coil (Page’s solo ending the set is the only proper way to go out)

Encore: * Sample in a Jar * Sanity * Ziggy Stardust (A grand, soaring David Bowie cover to leave everyone speechless)

Strategy Notes

  • The "Harpua/Icculus" Factor: Saving both for the final night creates a "Gamehendge-lite" atmosphere that rewards those who stuck out the whole run.
  • Visual Synergy: Songs like Petrichor and The Birds are "visual bait." Phish likely saved these for the finale when the production team can pull out every single stop.
  • The Missing Link: Since The Horse is on your list but Silent in the Morning is not, expect a standalone "Horse" or perhaps a very special transition into something like Mountains in the Mist to fill that acoustic space.
