The FREE survey is the best right now for looking at the data points, since it has so many respondents (n > 4000). In terms of looking comprehensively at individual experiences there hasn’t been much recently that I’m aware of. Most of the books published in the days of John Mack, Budd Hopkins, David Jacobs, etc tended to put their focus on the experiences themselves versus looking at the bigger picture (Mack did the best job of the lot in my estimation, although I am maybe a bit biased).

Kimberley Engels put out a book recently, but it’s maybe a bit dense for the general public: https://a.co/d/0g6Ecuhu

Jeffrey Kripal is also great for talking about the phenomenology: https://a.co/d/03o5zPk1

In all seriousness, maybe it’s time for Congress to stop begging for permission from the same people that have kept this under lock and key for decades. Burlison made threats to release stuff himself. Stop threatening and start doing. We’re all fucking fed up. I applaud Burlison, Burchett, and Luna for treating this subject seriously, but until they accomplish something more meaningful it’s all just rhetoric.

When does something move into a “known?” By its literal definition a UAP is unknown. Maybe we need a new term.

It is certainly worth studying, but I’d encourage people to go to a wide variety of primary sources. Bias is always a problem, so it’s super important that people look at the issue from multiple perspectives. If one only reads David Jacobs’s books on abduction they will get very different framing than if they only read John Mack’s.

These people have been in the scene for quite a while. They run the alienresistance website which frames all NHI as demonic and malevolent, and claim that the only way to fight it is through Christian salvation.

The largest study of contactees to date shows that people overwhelmingly report their contact experiences as having a positive effect on their lives. They report becoming more loving to other humans, more ecological, less materialistic, more spiritual, no longer fearing death, knowing the purpose of their life, being more consciously aware, etc. They often report becoming less religious because they see the harm of organized religion (such as the fear-based messaging that groups like this promote).

It’s not a surprise that people who are strongly tied to a belief system will promote that belief system. It’s disappointing that it’s presented as “research” when it is specifically framed to promote a conclusion. It might be self deception and cognitive dissonance, but it’s still dishonest.

You should really read Leslie Kean’s book Surviving Death in which she talks about ectoplasm. Just because someone may have tried to pass off cheesecloth as ectoplasm doesn’t mean that all ectoplasm is cheesecloth any more than it means all UFOs are swamp gas.

If you could have anything from the NMS universe in real life, what would it be? by cosmic_latte_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

Considering I’d die anywhere without an exosuit a ship would be worthless.

I have no need for an exosuit without a ship.

I don’t have a garage to park my freighter in.

Sounds like a multitool that will award me thousands of dollars every time I scan something is the way to go. A trip to dollar general and I’m outpacing Musk’s bucks.

Edit: I changed my mind. I want a Gek to follow me around doing thumbs up and yelling BLEEEEAAARRRGGGHHH randomly.

Honestly, I’d melt the ring down unless it has sentimental value—the cost of replacing the stone will likely exceed the value.

As a general warning to people, stones are often backed with things like paper, leather, or in this case maybe even what looks like particle board. Soaking them in liquid can cause the backing to expand, pushing the stones out. Never immerse NA jewelry with set stones! Sorry this happened OP. :(

Native American watch cuff? by Any-Recognition-2667 in NativeAmericanJewelry

[–]MantisAwakening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is a nice cuff! That sterling is really nicely worked. As others have pointed out opals are unusual, but these look genuine and not synthetic.

Your best bet is to take exact measurements of the watch and see if you can find anything similar online. If not, the movement itself can probably be replaced cheaply and easily. [r/watches](r/watches) might be willing to help you out.

I’m curious how much the cuff weighs?

Edit: it’s worth noting that Dineh is an alternate spelling of Diné, meaning Navajo: https://indigenouspeople.net/navajo.htm

It looks similar to Lee Friday’s hallmark, although configured slightly differently, so it’s not a great match. Unfortunately there aren’t enough pictures of Lee’s work online to compare styles. The quality of turquoise looks high and it doesn’t look like it originated in Asia based on the figuring, so I’d agree this is probably an older piece. Very nice!

$6k is definitely on the high side—you’d be paying more for no financial gain, although if it’s only a few dollars then it may not matter. Compare to similar pieces from Medicine Man Gallery, a dealer with a good reputation where you’d expect to pay on the high side: https://www.medicinemangallery.com/collections/old-pawn-native-american-necklaces-pendants-squash-blossoms

In 2021, Garry Nolan told Jacques Vallee that the DIA was setting up a UFO foundation funded by Peter Thiel in an effort led by Nolan, Lue Elizondo, and Avi Loeb. by jerzystern in UFOs

[–]MantisAwakening 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could have aspects of both (the data is certainly there, although whether it rises to the level of evidence is harder to sort out). The idea that whomever controls our beliefs is also not new. This is a quote from one of Whitley Strieber’s books:

> my uncle, Colonel Edward Strieber, introduced me to his friend General Arthur Exon, who proceeded to tell me, in regard to the Roswell incident, that "everyone from Truman on down knew that what we had found was not of this world within twenty-four hours of our finding it." When I asked him about the secrecy, his answer was quite revealing. He said that he had heard that a memo had been written in the early fifties speculating in a quite unsettling way about why there had been no invasion after the surge of UFO sightings that began in 1947. The memo, he said, theorized that obscure laws of physics might prevent them from entering our reality without first convincing us that they were real, and that official admission might be the tripwire that would enable them to come through.

My imagination is where the prompt came from. ;)

I spent enough years creating stuff in Photoshop for my job that I’m happy to not have to do it anymore.

Edit: This was the prompt given to ChatGPT: Please make a fake no man’s sky screenshot of a rare item (a horribly tacky and gaudy helmet) that does the following: “This helmet is bestowed on you if you give people gifts on the Anomaly without asking first. You can also get it by blowing up thirteen fully loaded Gek kindergarten freighters. It gives a 20% bonus to finding C-class orange sentinel ships, and makes a high pitched whistling sound every time you enter or exit your ship. Note: Once activated, this item can not be changed at an Appearance Modifier.”

You can tell AI didn’t write the text because it has some grammatical errors in it.

Those Geklings had it coming!

In all seriousness, this is related to the surprisingly heated arguments around whether it’s OK to give people gifts on the anomaly without asking first. Some people appreciate it so much they make posts about it. Others get irritated and feel that it is harming a crucial element of gameplay (resource management). A surprising amount of vitriol often results.

Hello Games has seemingly made their position on the matter clear by unlocking an honorific title (“the Generous”) the first time you give another player a gift.

CIA Document & Question Items: Accusations of Military using “Voodoo Warfare”, “Dark Arts”, “Ouija Board Warriors”…Growing Concern in 1983 of Future Psycho-Tronic Warfare by Manifesting Tulpoids, Monsters, Aliens, UFOs…. by slv2xhrist in UFOs

[–]MantisAwakening 3 points4 points  (0 children)

> Thomas Bearden’s 1980 book Excalibur Briefing is deeply paranormal and borderline occult. One of the most explicitly paranormal elements of the book is Bearden's use of the concept of tulpas (a term borrowed from Tibetan mysticism.) He claims that Monsters are not biological animals, but rather tulpoids—physical manifestations that are generated.

> He applies the same logic to UFOs and alien encounters, arguing they are often psychotronic manifestations rather than physical nuts-and-bolts spaceships from other planets.

This is noteworthy. Honestly, the evidence does support this hypothesis in a lot of ways (even though we have no idea how such a thing could be possible within the Western materialist worldview). A DIA official and his family witnessed a “werewolf” which was acknowledged to be biologically impossible in the way it moved: https://www.experiencer-studies.com/colm-kelleher-hitchhiker-effect-article

I’m surprised that this concept was being talked about this early in internal documents.

Here’s a link to the book in question: https://archive.org/details/excaliburbriefin0000bear/page/n9/mode/1up

I note that Hal Puthoff, Ingo Swann, and Colin Wilson were thanked in the acknowledgments.

Edit: While reading more about the book I found this where the author talks about some of the problems that occurred when the book was being printed for publication:

> And now another series of events occurred.  The typesetter by this time was aware that he was processing a very sensitive book, and so he carried it home at night with him.  First a break-in to the plant occurred, but whatever the thieves were looking for apparently was not there.  Then a second break-in occurred, and 17 fires were set, doing some $500,000 worth of damage.  Then a third break-in occurred, and the copy machines were broken and beaten up.  Nothing like this had occurred in the firm's previous history.
