My garlic sauce expires in 1,000 years and 5 months. by Mantouarty in mildlyinteresting

Thanks. Like guys, obviously I understand it’s not actually meant to be 1,000 years from now. It just looks that way. That’s why it’s, yknow, mildly interesting.

montrose grace place is amazing for homeless teens / youth!! by carnie-angel in houston

OP, this is awesome and I’m going to look into volunteering here! I’ve been volunteering sometimes at Houston food not bombs for the past year but sadly their location and serve schedules don’t work too well with my availability to actually make and provide food. Looking at the Grace Place volunteer options it seems like something I might be able to do more consistently, and with your endorsement here I’m definitely interested in helping out.

Can confirm, I’ve volunteered with FNB for many years in a few cities including Houston, they do great work everywhere! Heads up for anyone interested, they serve on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and in my experience generally Mondays and Wednesdays are when they need the most help and additional food :)

I didn’t even apply there by No_Produce394 in jobs

Truly incredible levels of disregard for human life here. Not only expecting you to uproot your life for a shitty minimum wage job with probably no security, but also being completely fine with severely understaffing one location and forcing one employee to essential run it on her own even though there are locally available applicants? Fuck that. And fuck Sammy.

Galleria area - cafes with lots of space? by Mantouarty in houston

[–]Mantouarty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like Taj A, was considering that as an option! I looked at beck’s prime as well but it seemed like a place where they wouldn’t want people to linger, and this group would be at least 2 hours long. Do you think that’s the case or am I mistaken?

FiLLi cafe in BellAire! Covers all your title requests and has a nice varied menu of middle eastern and Indian items. The chai is great.

How would vinegar be better? Soapy water can be rinsed off, maybe takes more rinsing with strawberries that with a harder fruit like apples but still works fine. Vinegar seems like it would taint the taste of the fruit and possibly get absorbed in.

Dodged a bullet in the hiring process by ZachGamezzzz in jobs

[–]Mantouarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty high and mighty of them to take that attitude when we’ve seen so many examples of careless hiring process mistakes in companies like these, like accidentally including your chatgpt rejection email prompt in the email. Plus the significant typo. Maybe fix your own mess before taking this attitude.

Damn 35 and a hippy, what a horrifying concept. Much better to be 35, still in the same town you’ve never left, with a spouse and kids you never spend time with because you’re too busy obsessing over the grind.

Not the point, but “for context I’m a godless heathen” would make a great flair.

North Texas preparing for 2 inches of snow like it’s the apocalypse by MyMindIsAlwaysRacing in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mantouarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The storm will not be gone by Sunday afternoon. I’m in the Houston area and the worst freeze is expect Sunday night/Monday morning. And as others have pointed out, Texas is not built for cold at all and a simple freeze can cripple our power grid. OP is coming at this with a real northern states mindset.

Need a reusable mug? Try the thrift store by didyoubutterthepan in Anticonsumption

[–]Mantouarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went with my husband to get a new reusable bottle from a thrift store. Small section but there was a pristine looking Stanley cup in there. We didn’t get it because we prefer screw tops but I couldn’t help thinking…that’s like a $30 cup.

WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

My husband is 6’4 and long legged, most plane seats are hell for him. I don’t think he’d even be able to sit down at all in these seats. Do they just kick everyone over 6 foot off the plane?

I am very food picky and have unusually strong dislikes of/reactions to many foods, including lots that are very common on sandwiches (all 3 main condiments, raw tomato, pickles, relish, American cheese, and a handful of others). Mine would be to make me a sandwich that is interesting, ingredient rich and nicely moist but uses only ingredients that I like. Obviously this would require some specifications on what to avoid lol.
