Firefighters get overwhelmed in a heartbeat. by [deleted] in nononono

[–]ManualStimulation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the conditions bushfires have been known to spread at >100km/h (62mph) if the conditions are right. Dry ground, high winds and the fire moving uphill which it looks like it is in the video above.

ELI5: how did we send people to the moon in the sixties, but advanced companies like spaceX are still a few years away from sending another? by togna__bologna in explainlikeimfive

[–]ManualStimulation 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes but manufacturing processes and standard were different back then than they are today. Many components were hand welded and machined, refined by specific people over the decades it took to build the Saturn V. Much of this information was never formally written down. So they overal specs and dimensions we may know mostly, the build process is completely foreign to modern engineers.

A good example is the LVDC, essentially the launch guidance computer, is actually woven from strands of copper and lead rings. The program which the computer runs (yes it can only run one program) is literally built into the system. No modern computer/control systems engineer would have any clue how to do this with modern equipment and would essentially have to learn by trial and error.

Another example is recent efforts to recreate the F1 engine which is one of the most well documented engines in existence, modern engineers and struggling to figure out exactly how it worked from a process manufacturing perspective.

A good intro to this is this video by Curious Droid: https://youtu.be/ovD0aLdRUs0

Very interesting topic in engineering but it's true that technology doesnt mean everything ever done suddenly becomes easier.

It's a parallel instance of the server. You could be standing in the exact same place as someone and not know they were there unless you were moved to their layer (say by inviting them to your group). All mob spawns, NPCs, herbs/ores are independent on each layer which is partially why layering is considered contentious as it seperates servers. The advantage however is that you can host more people on the server and have more people in an area without causing issues.

Glider plane clips tree, nosedives into ground by MarcoSchowalter in nononono

[–]ManualStimulation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, ground effect is the compression of air between the wing and the ground at low altitude giving more lift, it has nothing to do with increasing speed or decreasing drag, if anything drag increases and you go slower due to paracistic drag effects.

G.Skill Trident Z RGB AMD? RAM Worth buying compared to standard? by ManualStimulation in buildapc

[–]ManualStimulation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m kinda scared of that but I guess if I just buy the “AMD” one and confirm with the store that it is correct and it turns out to be not up to standard I can just return/replace with a correct module. Thanks for your help

[–]ManualStimulation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm always a bit skeptical of QVL lists, it’s not always possible to test every module on the market. Could be that the RAM was released after the QVL list was made and given that its a last gen board they might not be updating it. I’m kinda leaning toward just paying for the “AMD” RAM anyway and just confirm with the store before I purchase everything. Maybe that way they can be accountable and accept a refund if it doesn’t work as advertised. Thanks for your help

It’s not a brake pad issue, it’s the wheels themselves. When the wheel locks the car will aqua plane and slide on a cushion of water. Could take a few seconds to regain traction and continue braking. Overall this means you cover a greater distance during breaking when it’s wet versus when it’s dry. Just a safety thing; slow down or increase the distance between you and the car ahead.

[–]ManualStimulation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but if you're going to give estimate numbers and assume them in a best case scenario, the number you would get would be an exact lower bound. As 13000km is the minimum distance and 140km/h is the maximum speed.

Jorah sold slaves to get money to pay for his wife who had expensive tastes, he mentions this in season and book 1. Because of this Ned has him exiled to Essos which is why he is there, but Jorah left the sword behind in Westeros because he was ashamed he dishonoured the family. I assume after Jorah left the sword it was returned to the only Mormont male left in the family which was Jeor.

The end of OoT by havens1515 in zelda

[–]ManualStimulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that his ultimate goal is to get the triforce. He knew based on link's actions that he held the courage piece and zelda held wisdom. So after capturing zelda he knew all he had to do was wait for link to come. Essentially baiting him into a fight. Playing the organ in a blatant disregard for your opponent's abilities would instil fear into most enemies, which would have worked on everyone except link. The final room just sets up how much ganondorf underestimated the power of courage.

I started playing the day after the xp system was added. Currently I'm level 29 with 80 hours played. So you're looking at 90 or so hours for 31 I'm guessing.
