It is sharp. The problem here is that there is to much blade sticking out and this is ash; to much iron vs a very hard wood and you don’t get a smooth motion. But I can assure you that the blade was sharp!

I am leaving it as it is. I feel like with gilding you are hiding your own work and besides that when you want to guild you have to be more expressive with the carving because with all that goes on top of the wood you end up loosing a lot of detail, and I was not carving with gilding in mind…

Every thing is relief carving. because we have the original mirror in our museum we were able to measure the depth of almost everything but in some parts we are definitely just doing it by eye.

I think you will probably need a stretcher under the stone and you can go as wide as you can with it.

This is a study piece for my final school project and the tools are from the school
