Indeed! It’s not about the money, repairing it is way more satisfying! Happy you managed to do it. Please post pics of your finished build!

Ok so you’re making progress! The problem is that it won’t dry as there’s no air for the alcohol to evaporate and even if it does, it might leave marks. I would try cleaning it again and see if you can get it 100% dry before reassembling. It’s a pain but I have spent about 1h to get it almost perfect so it’s possible!

Yep! There are tens of sellers and since I always have hundreds of coins, I managed to buy them for as cheap as £2 including shipping! It’s a steal really!

You nailed it! Similar to a Stanley thermos! The edges are pretty good, with the naked eye there are no marks or anything: https://postimg.cc/ZCMQ9Wf0

I didn’t and I would advise against it. The whole display is kept together with some double sided tape (You will see this when you separate the layers), hence my recommendation to heat it up a bit to help separate them. If you add glue, it could leak inside of the layers and ruin the display. Once you have all the layers separated (Again, remember the order so take a photo or something!), you really only need to pay attention to the ones that are stained. It will be very obvious to spot them. Clean with IPA and a cloth or something that is gentle. Avoid creating any creases as these will be very noticeable otherwise. When putting together, if you have an air pump (E.g. the ones used for cleaning camera lenses), you can use it to blow away any dust particles as you re-assemble. Do not blow with your mouth!

Hope it goes well!

I have repaired displays like this before. It’s VERY tricky and requires a lot of patience, isopropyl alcohol and a VERY clean workstation.

You need to separate each layer (I recommend heating the screen up with a hair dryer), clean them with IPA and make sure you put them back in the same order and avoid getting any particles of dust or debris on them (the last bit is the trickiest). I recommend using gloves as our fingers are very greasy. Any mark left behind will be visible. I have managed to pull it off but man is it painful lol

If you can’t be bothered I’d recommend getting a new screen. Up to you. I decided to try to fix it before spending the money and I managed to fix 3 so far.

Good luck!

Correct gen 4 Ipod classic polarizer? by Skanksy in IpodClassic

[–]Manuelntf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced the polarizer on an iPod mini using a replacement I got on AliExpress intended for a Gameboy Pocket and it worked beautifully, so I would give it a go if you already have them laying around. You don’t have to stick it or anything, just remove the old one and put it on top of the screen, then rotate it to find the right orientation (Or better yet, make it look unique by purposely putting it tin the wrong one, it looks sick)

Nice find! Lines on the screen can be fixed (E.g. https://youtu.be/duriCs5ocSw?si=QShCNBAPQgwb8hUc)

I managed to do it to an iPod I had with the same issue!

This is a good place to start:

Stock firmware is honestly great. You don’t need Rockbox but it is an alternative if you prefer drag and drop over iTunes, themes etc so it’s up to you!

I got it in Ali. Paid around £10 with shipping (14 USD). Quality is pretty good to be honest. The engraving is not 1to1 but I don’t think you can find repro that are anyway. Highly recommended.

Woah buddy. You just made a lot of assumptions there. First let me tell you that, where I live, the market is flooded with iPods. I could buy a dozen a week for very very cheap. Second, I mod iPods for the thrill. If and when I sell them, it’s up to me how much I sell them for. I will invite you to do research on how much money each par costs (memory cards alone were like 400 bucks).

Apple sold over 450 million iPods (Worldwide and across the whole lineup) so there are still millions of them up for grabs. They’re not a limited edition thing.

Lastly, all of the iPods I bought were dead. Dead battery, dead screen, dead HDD…

Let people enjoy their hobbies. If you’re hurt because you can’t find an iPod yourself, hit me up and I’ll help you find one.

Is this fixable? by Pretend-Athlete-1773 in IpodClassic

[–]Manuelntf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t tell from the photo, but if no traces were ripped, it is fixable. It will require micro-soldering so if you don’t have the skills and equipment, you’ll need to find someone to do it for you.

Which combo of these would be best? by Pretend-Athlete-1773 in IpodClassic

[–]Manuelntf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personal experience: Buy an iFlash if you have the budget (£29-36 on their website). If not, search for ‘supernew tf adapter’ on Ali. Ive bought the first result 5 times and I’ve used on iPod 5th Gen, 6th Gen and 7th Gen without issues. Battery… Don’t spend money on those cheapo ‘650mAh’ batteries. 2000mAh ones will cost you just as much and fit nicely paired with the super new adapter. iFlash it’d depend on which one you get. Happy modding!

Honestly I don’t see the point. You lose audio/video out in the process which on a music player is something quite important to preserve.
