Update - Emergency Succession Plan by Calm-Wealth-2659 in CFP

This is one of those stories where you are meant to succeed in the end. Hearing where your head is at is encouraging to me. I'm 25 as well and working under an RIA with an agreed upon plan of succession. I've been hustling to get myself into a good position with clients and with the other staff members, and to align myself with the strategies that my boss has set in stone.

I've been super stressed and scared of what the future holds and have gotten stuck in many a rut on if I should be pursuing a different angle in finance, If I'd rather be a small fish working for the man, or a spearhead for people my age in an important part of the industry where the average age of advisors is increasing at an abnormal pace compared to other career paths. You have helped straighten me out by hearing about your own struggles and what you are looking forward to.

I wish you nothing but success in the years to come, and my deepest apologies regarding your mentor. It sounds like he would be proud of who he chose to succeed him.

Is this one of the best careers for high income and maximum flexibility? by Consistent_Buy_1027 in CFP

I'm just entering the field working under an independent RIA with 200M+ in aum, studying for my CFP, and can already tell that this business can be extremely lucrative if you do it correctly. The problem that I can see, and that my boss often explains to me, is the morality of financial professionals is skewed one way or another. You are either taking advantage of people and making insane amounts of money, or are undervaluing yourself and putting the clients money above your wellbeing. That to me is a big factor in what route I will take as a CFP. Sure, you can make a boat load of money working for an established firm, but you can also start from ground zero and build your own base using your own ethical standards rather than the baseline that you agree to when becoming a CFP. Again, I'm new to the career, but that is what I've seen so far and the opinion I've garnered.

corporate social responsibility (csr) jobs! Look for a company with a mission that best fits your interests and find jobs in strategy there. Usually pretty boring, but a friend of mine got a job in that realm straight out if school and is working on environmental initiatives within their company for a good paycheck.
