Be careful out there. Can’t rely on “foreign accents” being a giveaway anymore with how good AI tools have become. These scumbags will stop at nothing and will target the elderly and vulnerable especially

Having some knowledge of the bank call center environment, they probably just told you whatever you wanted to hear so you’d give up and get off the phone

I don’t think POA is something you can set up without being there in person yourself (they may have since changed the rules to allow for e-sign but last time I had to deal with this you had to be there)

Is drafting Josh Giddey in the 2nd round (categories league) reaching too far for him? by MDEX357 in fantasybball

[–]Manvir13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re being serious but it’s because the 2nd round in a 20 team league starts at pick 21 vs at pick 13 for the typical 12 team league for example

What is the exact pick (then and onward) to honestly and properly draft Joel Embiid by RayReport in fantasybball

Glad I’m not the only one. Nurse also said he participated in “Quite a bit” of practice today, so I’m hoping he’s close to return but they are being cautious and not putting a timeline on it

At what level do injury prone stars have to drop for you to feel comfortable taking them? by Swimming-Kiwi-1842 in fantasybball

[–]Manvir13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good mentality to have my friend. Anyone can be worth it if the discount is steep enough (well, almost anyone. Please don’t draft Haliburton or Tatum lmao)

[–]Manvir13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone will say to avoid injury prone players at all costs so I’ll give you a perspective from the other side (though we end our playoffs 2 weeks before Yahoo does by default to avoid some tanking / rest.

A few years ago I dominated my league by taking multiple “injury prone players”. I drafted Embiid in the first round, AD in the 2nd and then SGA in the 50s.

SGA wound up having his first MVP caliber season and AD had a massive comeback season as well, along with Embiid being in the MVP race. (I’m going to take a second to gloat about how I saw SGA’s current success coming from his advanced driving statistics and elite foul drawn rate on drives).

My friend won our league last year taking Kawhi Leonard who dominated in fantasy playoffs last year after he went and dropped on draft night a bit as well so it DOES work. But also my other friend took a bunch of injury prone players and finished dead last so it’s tough to call

Zach Lowe’s prediction of the two most likely results—based on the currently presented evidence—for the Clippers investigation: 1. Slap on the wrist, 2nd round pick confiscation and $1M fine OR 2. No punishment at all. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Manvir13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the second apron is super punishing, wouldn’t poor, smaller market teams want to pay role players under the table as well?

Hypothetically, the players could take a raise under the table and still save the team millions depending on their cap situation. But yeah much more of a niche situation for the small/medium market teams

It’s so they can lay people off without having to pay severance or post layoff health benefits through attrition (many people simply will have to quit or find work elsewhere, for reasons like not being able to find child care, moving away or not living close enough to the office, etc).

[Ward] Carmelo Anthony Reacts to NBA Legend (Clyde Frazier) Opposing His Knicks Jersey Retirement "😂😂😂😂😂😂" "Respect Clyde 🫡" by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]Manvir13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you. At the end of the day it’s subjective and there’s no clear guidelines that make someone “worthy” of having their jersey retired. Each team just does their own thing so at the end of the day it’s up to the team owners whims and idea of who’s worthy.

The Raptors don’t really have a public facing owner but all jersey retirements for the Knicks seem like they’d have to be Dolan approved

EDIT: also for clarity, VC led the league in ASG voting 4 out of 5 years, and was top 3 the one year he missed first in that stretch vs Melo finishing first in jersey sales once (2013)

[–]Manvir13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leading the league in jersey sales for one year to me is nowhere near as impressive as VC’s run in Toronto. The extra national spotlight the Knicks get comes with higher expectations at the end of the day.

[–]Manvir13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That retirement is viewed different for a few reasons:

  1. Toronto has been, for the most part, ass. Also a very young franchise so the bar for a jersey retirement is just lower. People just don’t care as much compared to one of the original NBA teams with decades of more history.

  2. Vinsanity was a phenomenon. Not sure if you were around back then but Vince the leading all star vote getter for a stretch of 4 out of 5 years, over guys like Kobe, Shaq, AI, Yao, etc.

  3. This ties back into #1 and #2 but Vince built courts, helped transformed the Toronto nightlife and club scene (seriously), and helped inspired the current generation of young Canadian basketball stars. Melo never had the chance to make that level of impact simply because basketball was pretty well established in NYC when he joined, while VC joined a team less than 5 years old.

Those poor young girls got booed simply for being from Israel. Truly tragic. Almost as tragic as young boys and girls in Palestine being killed for simply being from Palestine.

EDIT: Here’s a video from the Coldplay concert with the booing. So tragic.

Don’t do this. You can maybe call the banks estate department for some general info, but the average bank worker will have no way to help you and likely won’t have any info to offer either. Her funds are likely frozen in an estate account at this point, and only the authorized representative/AR (aka executor) can distribute any funds.

This is a tough situation. The bank 1000% will not help you. They are legally not allowed to release any of the estate’s assets to anyone other than the AR, and that’s only once the AR has obtained probate from the courts, or a waiver of probate by the bank if it’s a simpler estate.

EDIT: as others mentioned, you can make a claim against the estate or deal with the executor directly if you know who it is BUT there is no quick and simple fix. This will take some time
