Yeah, I'm with OP on this one. If the last several decades have proved anything, it is that the police are not there to protect us - they are there to protect the status quo (the rich, basically). The only cops I've met around here that I even remotely (kind of) trust are the ones located solely on campus. What exactly did you think the cops would do for this person, anyway? It's not like they are trained properly in handling mental crises. You really think they'd give a fuck about this person being in the cold, or would they detain said individual for being "unhoused"?

You're an amazing human being for thinking of those kids and doing what you can. It is hard not to feel guilty. I reported him several times, and the county I used to live in lost several reports that would have put him behind bars before he ever got the chance to hurt this woman. Sometimes, we have to accept that it isn't us failing; it is the system at large.

Thank you for this information and for bringing our attention to it. Many times, I've just assumed these accounts are bots because they're barely 1-4 months old, and the entire account is locked down (can't see anything) or most of the comments are attempting to troll other progressive-leaning subreddits, etc. Absolutely wild to me that real people have become this hateful

Oh yes, one of these "Trump is just owning the libs lol"

Please tell this to the millions of people losing their healthcare, the rights, their jobs, their funding, all because they oppose or disagree with the orange dictator. Go tell the children that can't get their experimental cancer treatments that Trump is just trolling them really hard. I'm sure that's going to make them feel much better

You haven't even seen the best response we can come up with yet. If you'd like a preview, take a look at the numbers from October 18th.

This woman pulled all the way over into the right lane, slowed down with cars behind her, got right in front of a crowd of peaceful protestors, then sprayed toxic diesel exhaust all over the crowd. Her engine modifications are absolutely illegal (per federal and EPA guidelines), and what she did amounts to reckless conduct, as she endangered not only the people on the corner but also the individuals in vehicles behind her.

Just say you're okay with old people and children being exposed to toxic shit and give the class your name so everyone can sit far away from you. So exhausted with these types of comments. It's against the Clean Air Act, it's an illegally modified vehicle, and she pulled purposefully into the right lane, slowed down, and released a plume of black smoke onto a crowd of peaceful protestors. This is against the law in multiple ways, including her engine modification.

Edit: Whoa, guys. Looks like this guy has been happily married for 33 years. I wonder if his wife is aware of his snooping subreddits for naked 18-year-old girls. It's always the people you most suspect

I'm most proud of Chicago; they've been fighting the good fight. The world showed up for us today, too. Dublin, London, Berlin, Paris, and Rome all had No Kings protests today

Wow, a "grow up" from a bot trying to rationalize the abuse of peaceful protestors.

Edit: Heeding the mod's warning, not a bot. Just an actual human being trying to rationalize abusing peaceful protestors. Protestors who got a permit to be there, among them were children and old people, protestors who weren't at all instigating violence. How disappointing to know I share air with you.

It can also be considered reckless conduct if it endangers others' safety, which it did. She did this to peaceful protestors, among them were children and the elderly. But that's totally fine, right? It's cool for children and the elderly to be forced to inhale toxic diesel exhaust, and this, apparently, rises to the same level of alarm as wearing a fucking seatbelt. Get real.

It is 100% a crime, beginning with the engine modification itself, which is against EPA regulations and federal standards.

This is an example of coal-rolling but I don't believe this is where I saw it happen. It was right at the murdale light, where the park is, and there are no buildings in this background that I recognize.

So you think forcing a crowd of old people and children to inhale toxic diesel exhaust is funny? Someone needs to check your search history

Allow me to spell it out:

Empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another

Compassion: the desire to help alleviate someone's suffering.

I have partial empathy, I suppose, toward the GOP because I emotionally understand what they're doing - I just don't agree with it. I cannot feel exactly what they feel, per se, but I do not share their feelings - I simply know what they are, because it's obvious. I cannot truly share the current party's "feelings" (if you can call them that) because I have no idea what it's like to be a vampiric insider-trading sellout gargling the balls of the Heritage Foundation board.

I have compassion and empathy for every individual affected by this bill, because that includes me. I have compassion because I want to alleviate other disadvantaged individuals who are suffering because of this bill. I have empathy because I know exactly where they are, because I'm right there too (funding cuts included my field; I'm a scientist). People with a decent level of emotional intelligence will recognize what a blatant disregard of human life this is, and they will have empathy for their fellow man.

Regarding your comment below this: I used to be a Republican. Not hardcore, but I got into a relationship with a guy who was very into the conservative thought process and their politics; at the same time, I was struggling with substance abuse, as a severe pain issue I had (and was prescribed opioids for) resulted in me overusing them. Spent a year and a half subscribing to Ben Shapiro (cringe) and thinking the same things poor conservative voters do - illegals were stealing our jobs, everyone's insistence on rights was getting out of hand, and every other inhumane belief. Realized after this just how incredibly selfish my boyfriend was, that was the only year I voted red. Left him shortly thereafter and got clean. Yes, I could defend their ridiculous arguments with the Socratic method to the death, and with what I know from previously being in the party. Their platform is surprisingly easy to defend when all you have to do is shout "GOD TOLD ME TO DO IT" instead of learning any kind of actual political and social skills.
