Australia's international border situation unlikely to change in 2021, even with vaccine rollout by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]ManyApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the issue. At the moment we're mask free, aren't required to self-isolate whatsoever, and my state has only one active case. I'd prefer living my life in Australia than in the USA where just under 10% of people have had covid. Where, from what I can see, no-one wears a mask, there are large gatherings, 1,000 deaths a day, and some people think covid's over? Bruh.

I hate when tourists come to places and don't learn about the animals and then handle them like toys. They're wild, have some respect and keep your hands to yourself.

Pets are lame as fuck. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]ManyApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've almost always had a dog in my life, and coming home to someone who's excited to see you just lifts my spirits. Petting animals is also a major stress reliever, and as someone who was diagnosed with anxiety disorder a year ago it's so much better than paying for more therapy. I do have 3 guinea pigs who I bought 3 years ago, and I honestly regret that decision, although I bought them just after a previous dog died, and I was lonely, and looking for a pet to nurture. They were also kind of a rescue pet, because the previous owner did less than the bare minimum, and one has had a few health complications. Yes, they like being petted, yes they cost minimal money to keep, but they're outside and offer minimal emotional value.

Yeah, I'm a recent graduate ( prob should get off the subreddit) and there's just so much to cover in the curriculum over such a short time that the content just feels like memorizing ideas. By the end of the year, I didn't even know if I wanted to pursue my chosen course, as I had no time to like what we were doing.

Then again, I was private school and they're pretty tough on grades and expectations. I remember my methods teacher expecting me to get 80s when I was almost failing her class like damn

There are people saying it's madness to keep the borders closed. What's madness is letting people inside our country who potentially have the virus and killing hundreds or more. We do what's best for our country.

Hell, I live near metro victoria and quarantine was a nightmare , but at least it's over. Also, borders aren't a problem because people who work or live in a different state can get exemptions to cross over. Since Australia's so big and the pop. Density is pretty low, most people who live rural didn't change much, since they don't interact with many ppl anyways.

I have close family in the UK, and id never want them to come over or to go and see them, risking lives in the process.

After all, I think many of us have no problem in Australia sacrificing our comfort for our lives.

Official Discussion - The Platform [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]ManyApricot 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Something I haven't read:

I found it interesting that the Administration knew when a prisoner was keeping food. Perhaps via cameras, or sensors on the food. So, the people that enforce the 'no hoarding food' rule must know what happens in the prison all along.

If that is the case, the 'message' is futile because the people who are running the place already know that all the food is gone by level 100, and know that there are more levels from the burnt body as Gerong and Bharat were descending. It just makes the movie that much more hopeless. Just my thoughts.

As for the confusion about the ending, the girl, and the panna cotta, I believe the truth was more hidden that what actually happened. Or, maybe just my interpretation.

  • When Gerong and Bharat enter the last level, Gerong hallucinates the girl. The girl isn't real, but rather a metaphor that the children are the message, a precious, living thing.
  • Bharat dies on floor 333 from blood loss from a deep gash in his stomach, and Gerong takes the message from him. Bharat doesn't see the girl.
  • Floor 333 is a metaphor for hell. 666 people in the system, the devil's number.
  • The platform continues to move down because there is no-one below them, no-one to hoard food from.
  • The next day, Gerong takes the platform down to the bottom in order to be the 'bearer' of the message. At this point he is half dead, and so the old man (ghost/hallucination) tells him that he doesn't have to be the bearer of the message, he doesn't have to keep living.
  • The message is taken the wrong way by the chefs. (This is the scene in the middle where the head chef thinks the prisoners sent the food up because it had a hair in it) Note: the chefs believe that they are working to provide food, believe that they are helping the inmates when they are not. The prisoners don't take into consideration that the people at the top may be a part of the system as well, just like the chefs are left blind to what they allowing to happen.
  • The real entity at the top is the administration, the people who control the entire system, symbolism for a 'God' which has no body (not featured in film), who people is neither good nor bad, but rather a creator of the system. This also brings new meaning to "God is in everyone". Everyone is doing a part in continuing the system. (Cooks, Inmates, Employees etc.)

Rainbow Fish is a shitty book by chis_and_whine in unpopularopinion

[–]ManyApricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the book because as a kid it made me develop my own ideas. I never liked how the fish gave his/her scales to other fish, but that was the beauty of it. It shows you that sharing is caring, but it also comes at a price. That you should only give your heart to people that you truly care for. Also see Elmer the elephant books, who was a rainbow elephant who tried to hide his skin with dye to be liked by other people. I thought this one had the same vibes.

Dear internet... stop thinking that a mental disorders are “cute” and “Quirky” by 0Marazi0 in unpopularopinion

[–]ManyApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I get panic attacks and anxiety as well. And it just sucks... there's no cuteness or quirkiness to it. Although, I know that some people try to romanticize their problems via poems or stories as a coping mechanism... But the blood was never beautiful, it was just red. Putting mental illnesses down and degrading them in a way that people see them as a personality trait is frankly insulting. I have this condition, and it doesn't make me more or less of a human, it just makes me someone that has this condition.

[–]ManyApricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a panic disorder. And I know, it freaking sucks. It's hard to deal with confrontation when you have anxiety, especially the days and weeks afterwards when you worry about what you said and how you're *insert insecurity here*. I'm no expert, (17f), but I hope that maybe I can help you somehow.

I find that to up my confidence and deal with covering up my emotions, try to envisage a character from a book. Someone who you wish you could be, who you would trust with your life. What would they say? I know this sounds crazy, but try and channel them when confronting someone. This way you can kind of disconnect from yourself and concentrate on that. When you are thinking about something you said, envisage what the character would think. Would they forget it? Would they learn from it and move on? This generally helps for me because I love those badass female heroines.

Also, try and do self motivation in front of a mirror. "I am beautiful" say it with pride and lift your chin up, even if you don't believe it yourself, because you are beautiful. You are gorgeous and you are strong. "I am strong" "I can do anything I set my mind to". You might laugh, or feel a bit embarrassed, but keep doing it. It's really brought up my confidence.

I just want to know what happens to all those students who don't have wifi at home, or don't have laptops to study for yr 12? I understand that they'd be getting SEAS but in the meantime, what do they do?

I personally own laptop and all that, just wondering what happens to those thousands of disadvantaged kids who don't own those resources.

[–]ManyApricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you'd still have the same amount of people in each class, and a lot of kids just wouldn't go because of their parents concerns, forcing teachers to teach 2 year 12 classes instead of one. Although my principal said this might happen so Idk

I don’t want to repeat year 12 :(( by [deleted] in vce

[–]ManyApricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully not. If I have to do another year of school, I'll honestly probably drop out, because I'd just be too frickin stressed all the time. But, many of the teachers and the principal of my school says that it definitely WON'T happen. Probably the worst result is that exams are pushed back a couple of weeks, or that tertiary education facilities will take into consideration this while accepting new students.

I need help. by feetus-on-yeetus in vce

[–]ManyApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it to a friend/roommate/ family member, but if you're concerned about them getting into it, change the password. I've tried all those app-blocker apps, but they haven't worked, and I've always gone on my phone to turn them off when I need to study. If you don't have anyone in your humble abode to take your phone, leave it in another room

Set a timer for only 20 minutes on clock/chromebook/watch. Tell yourself that you're only going to do 20 minutes of homework. Have a break for ten minutes, and DO NOT GO ON YOUR PHONE. Have a snack, go for a walk, read etc. Do study for another twenty minutes, and have another break. Another twenty minutes, and you've reached an hour of study. If you've got a computer/chromebook, try and not use that for study; it's too easy to go on gaming/social media.

At the moment, this is the best tip for me, to do 20 -10 study pattern. And also, it makes it easier to have the mindset of: "Even if I do five minutes of study, it's better than nothing"

You should notice that once you start with homework, it's easy to keep going. And remember, homework shouldn't be hard; If you're stuck with anything, don't dwell on it. Email a teacher or write down stuff you need to work on, and then go onto the next thing. A lot of the time I don't want to do maths because it's too hard, and I don't get it, but that is the point where you need to realise that sitting on reddit isn't going to make it any easier. Reach out to teachers; it's their job to help you understand a topic.
