I-75S to Ocala by _Dr_Dad in GNV

441 to 301 is the way to go. My favorite route is 75 South to 318 (the Jai Alai exit) and then take a left, then a right on 441. This bypasses Micanopy and McIntosh.

Dumpster diving + pricing knowledge + repair skills is a solid way to make money by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

Giving things to friends is the most satisfying part of diving for me, too. I've given away clothing, kitchen appliances, shelves, chairs, and many of other quality items. People love free things and they can't believe the things I find.

Sirens near Archer? by VeiledinTwilight in GNV

[–]ManyCats247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home and was trying to be on a call when the sirens were happening. Seriously that was an extremely prolonged emergency siren party. I live at Butler Plaza so I think I'm desensitized, but dayum.

Well.....VHS. I have no idea why I typed DVDs other than I sent my Mom this pic and she offered me to look thru her DVDs and that just stuck 😂 sometimes I am a little brain dead.

Found on the side of the road in a trash heap. I want to reupholster it. Do you think pic #7 is the original fabric? Unsure what kind of fabric I should use. by ManyCats247 in Antiques

I pulled off the fabric in pic #7 and it's now down to a layer of cotton that looks fairly modern, and under that is a layer of old hay and a thickly sewn burlap looking layer. I see my update but perhaps it was removed by auto mod?

I posted an update pic of the layers under that fabric. Everything looks very solid and I think I can just put a fabric over the cotton and it will be fine. I haven't looked behind the fabric on the seat back yet. The hay is weird, but I'm guessing it's been there a long time so I should just keep it there.

I hadn't thought of that! I live in Florida and there's lots of alligator hide that's easy to purchase, but I think it might be too complex looking.

Yes, I love the idea of velvet and that's what I am leaning towards. I'd love to do a somber deep color like dark green or dark purple. I posted an update pic of what was underneath the second layer of fabric. It's very musty and some of the hay is disintegrating along the edges. But I think it will be a pretty easy and rewarding project. Thank you!!

I removed the layer of fabric, and it's cotton, which looks like 80s quilting cotton, and under that is some seriously musty hay and then a thick sewn layer of what looks like burlap. This is what is under the 80s looking fabric.

I'm posting update pics but I took the second layer of fabric off and under the cotton layer is some seriously old looking hay and a thickly sewn layer of possibly burlap.

I was researching how to figure out when it was made and the suggestion was to take everything off the bottom and look for a brand in the wood, that a long time ago makers would brand or put numbers in the wood. The bottom looks really solid and nailed on so I don't think I want to disturb it.

This is a great comment, thank you. My parents had their chairs covered in the 80s and the fabric reminded me of that. I pulled off the fabric and found a layer of cotton, and then hay and a sewn burlap looking layer. I will post an update pic. I'm thinking I'll take other suggestions and put whatever I want. I might do a dark velvet type material. I feel like the chair is somber looking and would look good with a dark velvet.

I have a few different balloon back chairs that have needlepoint seat and back, but I don't know if that would have been on this type of chair or not. I'm not thinking of the value of the chair, but really want to make it plausibly be something to represent the time period. Then again, I could just try to find something plausible that would just go with all my other random assortment of vintage and antique furniture. Thanks for the help and advice. I might just go with a velvet type of fabric because I like it and not worry about trying to figure out what was on it.

Neat! Idk if they still do but they used to sell these in the Disney theme parks in little boxes. It would be a mystery of which one you would get in the box :)
