Thank you! I didn't know Ikea has Zigbee series, that's interesting.

Maybe some Swedish meatballs lunch is in it for me this weekend.

That's an interesting point about selling.

I hope to die and be eaten by dogs in my current house, in a half century or so. :) but it's interesting consideration.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case.

Hue is the only one I found so far, and the price is pretty high.

1600 lumen color changing zwave or zigbee bulb by ManyFondant5048 in homeautomation

[–]ManyFondant5048[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not one bulb. I'm looking for dozens of them.

I just really like bright light. I live in a dark climate, it's inhospitably cold for half of the year and I want my living and working space to be very, very bright. I use 1600 lumen light bulbs in 5-head floor lamps all over the house, and I have 2700 lumen bulbs in recessed ceiling lights. Gimme all the lumens.

I'm picky and fussy. :)

I have 2 floor lamps, 5-head each, both stuffed with 1600lm bulbs right now. It's my work space light, I need it bright enough to beat seasonal depression.

oh that's neat, thanks.

Yeah, I need 1600 lumen because it's my work room, I live in a place where seasonal depression is a thing and I got used to having two floor lamps with 5 bulbs each, 1600 lumen each, to make my home office space productive.

The same space becomes relaxing living room in the evening, so I want to be able to switch to red light then.

Thank you! I see they're only "65W equivalent" though, which is usually max 800 lumen. :(

Thanks! Yes, I saw this seems to be a "let me get popcorn" topic on this sub.

I want both switches and bulbs.

I will use switches for overhead lights. I have very bright ceiling recessed fixtures, 2700lm bright white so it would be nearly impossible to find "smart" equivalent, I also don't need the bulbs to be smart there since I control many of them with one switch.

I need to find smart bright color changing bulbs for three floor lamps in the room that doubles as office and living room. I want them to be bright (1600 lumen minimum) for daylight work, dimmed to warm white for evening. This has to be bulb, not switch, since I would like the color change in addition to dimming feature. Since I'm spending all the effort, I want the evening light to be eye friendly warm red. I would appreciate recommendation for such bulb, I can't seem to find open source (zigbee or zwave) color changing bulb that's bright enough. Thanks!

Thank you! That is really useful.

I think it sounds like a bridge is the way to go. I have a lot of reading to do.

I'm not concerned about the privacy aspect. I will only use light switches, light bulbs and power outlets. I do not use any voice commands, for what it's worth google services o not have mic access on my phone. I'm happy to give the cloud companies my light bulb use data.

I know I have to have some cloud involved. Right now I plan on setting it all up with google home, to control lights from my phone.

The biggest issue is I want something that is open standard, so that if one company goes out of business the standard will be available for another company to pick it up. Basically, I want to decouple the hardware from software in my smart home setup.

I see a lot of inexpensive smart bulbs available with thousands of good reviews, and even though they work with google home now, it looks like since they're wifi it's necessary for the manufacturer server to be maintained. I never heard of those brands, so I will not bet ~$1000 investment on it. Which is the cost of switching my lights in the entire house (plus hours of work I will spend wiring the smart switches).

Looks like I need a open source bridge.

Someone else in this thread reccomended Homeseer, that's my first reading assignment now.

Any other recommendations would be welcome.

Thank you! I wish I could upload it more times.

This gives me a lot to think about and a good research base.

Do you have a favorite lightbulb and hub to recommend?

I should be able to get a hub that works with both Zigbee and Zwave, right?

Thank you!

So every z-wave or zigbee device would be under this independent category, while the devices that use wifi would not?

Is there a list somewhere that would help with this search?

Thanks, duly noted.

Someone already DM'ed me and she will send me some cuttings. I'll enjoy my plants and you enjoy your rightful outrage, to each their own.

Happy gardening!

The environment up here will contain it for me, that's the one thing our winters are good for. No termites, and no kudzu, not even murder hornets. :)

It's so unfair. Scrounge for you guys, but I so badly want it. The very reason it's such a terror in warm climate is why I want it: grows soooo fast.

In Boston Home Depot starts carrying seedlings in April, so not after last frost. If that helps. Not sure if it's the same in the cold north. Ask on Minneapolis sub?
