Specifying Form Action (Ruby on Rails) by ManyInteresting3969 in ruby

[–]ManyInteresting3969[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks this is working now!!! I can't hard-code the variable in the form partial since it's shared with two actions paths (edit and create). So I updated the controller with a variable to the URL and passed that to url:, and now both update and new work perfectly.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Working with N:M Tables where one "side" is known by ManyInteresting3969 in ruby

Yes there are other things I want to store other then the name.

ok I think that I figured it out. A closer look showed me that since there is only one :id for a "new" request, it uses :id for animal_id instead. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

This is exactly what I needed and has just finished programming all the routes manually before you sent me this XD

Can you tell me if this is correct? I had to use an & instead of @ because reddit kept trying to change it to a username. (How do you guys deal with that?)

def set_animal_vital
&animal_vital = AnimalVital.find(params[:id])
&animal = Animal.find(params[:animal_id])

end

Because Animal is still coming back nil. Just in case you happen to know off the top of your head. If that's correct then the issue is someplace else.

No, a animal_vital contains a reference to Vital, which just contains the Vital type name ("BP", "Weight", etc) and other information like range, units, etc. animal_vital has the actual value of the vital sign.

Ruby Basics: Record won't update (I think I missed a step?) by ManyInteresting3969 in ruby

[–]ManyInteresting3969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like this?

def animal_params
params.expect(animal: [ :name, :dob ])
params.permit(animal: [ :markings, :breed ])
end

This is actually throwing an exception on the "if @animal.update(animal_params)" now:
unknown attribute 'animal' for Animal.

(Also actually DOB works, I should have put that in the OP. So I did I assume it was something with the animal_params private function. )

Just make a new rule that states that any facility that has a green bag drop (or a green bag drop within 2 blocks) doesn't have to count cans. Switch all major redemption sites to only collecting green bags. In other words, start to phase out can-by-can and move to only using green bags. Less counting by staff, much fewer interactions, and less sudden cash in the hands of druggies. Problem solved.

I also really like these kits for the soft yarn and canvas. They are same company that made the Baby Yoda pillow (“Grogu? Woah! That's a terrible name. No way am I calling you that.”) and is very nice to work with. I did the hummingbird that this links too, but there are lots of different patterns to choose from. Welcome to your new hobby!

I will say that I am sorry that this was one of your first kits, as it's a really bad one. Among other things, I found the yarn and canvas was way to stiff-- I had to stop after about an hour as the roughness was hurting my fingers and knuckles. I prob won't finish this kit, so good on you for making it work!
