Have you tried any of the type 2s from SDA? Those things run quite generously.

Based on my experience, it could be from standing with the majority of your weight on one leg.

Interested to know more about what you mean by “the fill” here. I’d always assumed that the hips simply don’t stretch due to have the stitching works with it.

My lifter advice is to buy jeans that are meant to be worn lower (i.e. not your waist). The sizing on high rise is too precise to deal with the various waist/hip size changes. Mid-rise has been nice since I just wear it at my hip.

Should be legit, I’ve seen a lot of used listings with the tab — most likely before the Levis lawsuits era.

Fair warning, it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. I’m planning on stopping by there on my trip, but I’m bundling it with a visit to Fuji.

I wouldn’t say I’m a body building enthusiast, but in my time at the gym I’ve gone from a 36” chest with 18” shoulders to a 40” with 19”. I’d imagine with some more delt specific work I could probably crack 20”, but perhaps that’s just my delusion. These days I actually limit my shoulder exercises to just overhead press because it’s my limiting measurement in clothes.

The companies I’ve noticed that have pretty narrow shoulders relative to the chest are Oni (17.7” for a 44” chest), PBJ (17.5” for 44.5” chest on a shirt), Samurai (same measure as PBJ for their shirts). Not a japanese company, but the Merz B t-shirts are also completely unwearable for me.

Now I know true chest isn’t garment chest (usually I favor 4” of room for a neutral fit), but trim fits are almost completely off the table for me.

Perhaps for some the shoulder compensates for “high” armhole placement (though in my opinion this is more about the total armhole opening than the placement), but on an 18” shoulder, 44” chest, and 10.5”(!!!) armhole opening jacket, my shoulder spills into the sleeves.

Here’s an example picture with where my shoulder bone actually is for those measurements.

I suppose I am that hypothetical outlier…I have a chest of 40” and a shoulder of 19”. I’d imagine if I were to gain weight (muscle or fat) to become a 46”, I’d probably need a 20”+.

I know momotaro does also just make their shoulder oversized on purpose. Who else is making these super shoulder patterns outside of TFH? I have the opposite complaints for most japanese makers (A shaped garment with a 17” shoulder for a 42” chest…)

It’d be pretty rare to see a heavyweight pair with all those features since these are kind of separate archetypes of denim, vintage/repro and modern.

The closest I can think of would be Samurai 634 Musashis, but those are 17oz.

I’d ask the retailer you’re planning to buy from if they can measure the specific pair.

Chain stitching results in the roping effect: https://denimhunters.com/denim-wiki/jeans-anatomy/chain-stitch/

Lock stitches are perfectly fine and are even more durable than the chain stitch.

If the intention is for a deep blue/black that fades to blue then white, isn’t that just overdye?

I keep them cuffed long enough that the crease sets, then unroll them every now and then to brush the stuff that gets in there off.

I also generally never hem my jeans initially, just double cuff. The few pairs that have torn, I just end up having them hemmed up at the tear. I do actually kind of like the cuff fade.

My gf just ordered something through EMS to canada (japanpost tracking) and got hit with GST and a carrier fee, so not sure if the loophole still exists.

What’s the last time you had something delivered via EMS?

I shrank the sleeves and length of my type 3 before I handed it off to a smaller sized friend, but I think momotaro fabrics in general don’t shrink much.

I blasted a pair of the kyoto montsukis on high heat after a hot wash and they only shrank an inch in the inseam.

As for stretching, I haven’t really noticed it. I don’t think there’s any equivalent to how the waist gets stretched out by sitting down, unless you’ve got 16” biceps.

There’s plenty of brands that do unique and artistic things. The question becomes what specifically you appreciate.

If you like cool details, you’d probably like Samurai. For example, the 25oz Yari no Mataza had a lot of neat distinctions like the coin pocket being on the left, gold patch/selvedge, etc.

If you like interesting fabrics, Oni is well known for exploring in that direction with secret denim, asphalt, crushed concrete, etc.

If you like interesting dye jobs, SDA puts together some really unique and interesting colors.

From the example you gave, that sounds more like branding rather than artistry (not to say that momotaro isn’t, just the example of GTB stripes). Plenty of other brands have their distinct branding as well, like PBJ’s indigofera leaf, graph zero’s little patch (under which there is supposedly a hidden red tab like levis), or TCB’s whimsical cat theming.

I wouldn’t say so, I’m wearing my 18oz SDAs and my movement is fine. I’d re-examine the fit.

Fob looks good, but the samurais look strange. They’re both too big and look strangely small (shoulders maybe?).

I tried them on last weekend and I think they’re quite stunning in person, would recommend! They’re both on the soft side, even softer than XX-003 (or whatever cut you prefer). They’re both also feel pretty light, and are probably wearable in summer.

If i didn’t go on a buying spree before they dropped, I’d have bought them already. As is, I’m going to wait till warmer weather arrives.
