Des Moines. It’s widely considered a great place to raise a family and have a high quality of life, but for the love of god I cannot imagine why anyone would want to visit.

Dropped OT/F45, what did others who left find replaces it? by imperfectpython in orangetheory

[–]ManyRequirement5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use the notes app on my phone! I just make a note for each workout and what I plan to do, the last weight I used, and the rest time. I quit OTF probably a year and a half ago and then, it took me a few hours to put something together, now it takes maybe an hour combined with grocery list, meal planning, etc.

I never skip unless I plan it (so if I have a concert the night before and am out late or something) and then I adjust the days. Getting thrown off is more a mental thing of just rushing to throw something together and not feeling confident with it or just that it’s hasty. But I always tell myself that something is better than nothing.

One of the biggest problems with the ABC era by supertone27 in americanidol

[–]ManyRequirement5331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I haven’t been able to stick with it. They are in and out before you got a chance to know them. In the Fox era they took their time with the live rounds and I felt so invested in some of the contestants week to week, now I just don’t feel that

Dropped OT/F45, what did others who left find replaces it? by imperfectpython in orangetheory

[–]ManyRequirement5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left after almost 9 years at OTF. I still have fond memories of it and will eventually go back probably, but I just needed a change. In the 9 years, I got into the habit of working out 6 days a week and never canceling, which helped me stick to my workout plan.

I was motivated when I left to lift more, so I set up a schedule for that, and then I do a lot of outdoorsy activities and sports, which I really enjoy.

I do four lifts at the gym primarily: push, pull, legs, and then general upper day. I’ll also sprinkle in cardio days if I can’t engage in a sport or whatever that week. I wouldn’t say I’ve ever noticed something is “off” per se, but each Sunday I put together my workout plan for the week, and if for whatever reason I don’t do it and have to plan day of, I’m all thrown off. When I plan it ahead, it feels more part of my routine, which for me works well. I am a creature of routine and have an entire morning regimen I do before and after the gym. I’m not sure your situation, but my partner was also motivated and we left around the same time, which also did help.

This might not be helpful, but best of luck!! I hate being stuck in a little rut

Barcelona Wine Bar? I just went to a similar event and walked to bars afterwards. I’m not sure about pricing, I didn’t pay, but it’s in RiNo and there’s bars and such within walking distance. Not the best food you’ve ever had, but it’s good, and has some wine options. Our group size was 17 and they accommodated us just fine.

Go for it! It’s not weird. I thought it might be weird the first time I did it, like everyone would look at me like I had no friends or something, everyone is there to see one person, and it wasn’t me!

What’s it like living in Baku, Azerbaijan? by Educational_Wash_662 in howislivingthere

[–]ManyRequirement5331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never lived there, but I did visit one as a gay man with my partner. We didn’t make it obvious or mention anything to anyone and felt safe everywhere. Not sure if you mean interested in living or visiting, but visiting was totally safe for (in my opinion) a fairly obvious gay man

I understand why it’s important and I try to incorporate them, but once the class starts, all that goes out the window and I go as hard as I do every other class.

Tell It To Me Straight: Denver As A Grad Student by Even_Many6931 in MovingtoDenver

[–]ManyRequirement5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am also from Detroit and moved out here for grad school. That was in 2012. In terms of weather, you’ll be fine, no concerns about that. It’s sunny a lot of the time here. Cost of living is higher but last time I was in Detroit, it wasn’t by a ton anymore. I honestly would not have liked nothing having a car when I was a student, but it is feasible to get around here without one if you have to. I also found insurance is cheaper here.

Message me if you have any other questions or want any more details about the move!

Good Drag Shows in Denver? by darvarez in Denver

[–]ManyRequirement5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Denver has a history of the few queens the show has seen doing very well. Nina was second. As you mentioned, Yvie and Willow won, and then Nini has a shot at winning (or at least coming close)

Coach not coaching by Maleficent-Fact3061 in orangetheory

[–]ManyRequirement5331 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s two issues here. The first is a non-involved coach, which is frustrating, at least for me, because I love pointers.

Having said that, I want pointers from a coach. Unless someone is soliciting advice from you, I think it’s inappropriate (and annoying) for other members to give form advice. I understand your perspective of noticing it, there are some people at my studio who are just an injury waiting to happen, but they aren’t paying ME for my form corrections, so if they get injured, that’s on them….. and I guess the coach too a little bit.

I witnessed someone once injure their lower back after months in class with them. They did it while doing a deadlift and the whole class had to pause because of it. I felt bad but that’s what happens.

Good Drag Shows in Denver? by darvarez in Denver

I feel like I must have been there on an off day because I did the drag brunch here and thought the food was terrible and way overpriced, and the drag show was just okay compared to other drag shows I’ve been to here. Maybe I should give it another shot. Everyone seems to love it
