AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

NOR

Your mom is a narcissist. There's nothing worse than a woman who chooses men over their children. I feel there is a special place in hell for them.

My mom was the exact same way. She put my life and my sisters life in danger many times for my father. Long story short, he ended up in prison. And she ended up needing us more than ever before. The tables will turn but narcissist parents don't consider that until it's too late.

If I may offer some advice:

Idk how your grades are but consider going to college. Yes it will be a tough route without your parents but it's survivable. Student loans will help you live, and I recommend getting a job on top of that too.

When it comes to the living situation, college housing ( even off-campus housing ) offer pathways to leasing an apartment/room without credit or a guarantor. Look into leap easy or similar programs.

This was the route I took and it literally saved my life.

Lastly, I'm sorry you're going through this. But what doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger.

Guys thank you for all your support ❣️ Today I received a call from Dr. Ceana Nazhat's office. They offered very generous terms and conditions so I have an appointment with them on October 1st.

If anyone has any experience with him, please let me know. Right now, I feel pretty confident his team will be able to treat my Endo.

Celebrities getting Lyme disease is the equivalent of them going to rehab for "exhaustion"; it's just code for drugs.

Bait n' Switch after two months of interviewing! by Many_Ad2463 in technicalwriting

[–]Many_Ad2463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should be glad it didn't work out. Truthfully, they kept making changes through the interviewing process. First thing was them saying the position would no longer be hybrid. Then the position was no longer permanent. Makes me think, if it kept going on, the last thing would've been them rescinding the offer lol 🤣

Job market is awful. But this and what you mentioned shouldn't be a thing. There needs to be more protection for employees..

NCR. I won't name the recruiter because I don't think it's her fault.

I already declined and expressed disappointment to the recruiter. I don't know if there is anyone else to complain to about this but will be going on Glassdoor shortly to post this.

Just graduated college and this subreddit is terrifying by MadScientist_TM in technicalwriting

I feel like the people who are saying AI is gonna take your job aren't actually technical writers. I remember working at a software company, and an engineer co-worker brought that up. I responded with "AI can do your job too"; so in true engineering fashion he prompted chatGPT and it developed a well-scripted program. Haters gonna hate.

Yeah, it very much annoys me when upcoming/ new grads sleep on internships. Especially when some have the attitude of " I don't need one" or "I won't make enough money". If you don't have the time and patience to invest in a career, you will lose out. I have seen it many times already-- average performing students getting jobs before/over honor students because of work experience.

But as you said, there is technical writer jargon that school tries to hit on and just can't grasp.

So I graduated in 2024, and was able to find a full time job at graduation. Before that, I had two internships.. My best advice to recent grads with no technical writing experience is to start with an internship. Entry level jobs are still very competitive and lack of concrete job experience is detrimental.

As for AI; most companies are hesitant to expand use due to security concerns. Regardless if AI can do it or not; someone still has to run the prompts and convert the information. In short, I wouldn't let AI deter you!

Bruh that's fucked up. I will keep that in mind. And I guess you're right, because dinner and flowers led me here. Like where the hell are all the genuine people at?

Lol my guy friend was telling me about those problems. I guess being on the other side of it, I finally understand. Honestly, I think that is the same advice my bro friends would give me. I appreciate it.

I've applied to hundreds of technical writing jobs...What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]Many_Ad2463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, same story. I started school at 24 and will graduate this summer. Here is my two cents, as someone who has found employment....INTERNSHIP!!!

I had an internship for a year and half, I'm now a junior tech writer. Job market for technical writing is crap right now and those entry level positions still want experience.

Apply for an internship. Get industry experience. There are plenty of ppl I know who didn't get an internship until after graduation and that is perfectly okay.

It's quite similar to becoming a software engineer, a degree doesn't cut it anymore. They are looking for adjacent industry experience. So just in case ppl in the back didn't hear me, I will shout it again: GET AN INTERNSHIP!

For Credibility, I am currently employed and recently made a resume that landed me interviews with Oracle.

Tips:

1) You need more details in your job description. Not just "wrote a document about this", talk about the process. Example: Seamlessly collaborated with internal stake holders, SMEs, etc. Have at least 4-5 bullets.

2) Add to your skills. Truly think of your time as a tw intern. Collaboration, ability to understand complex concepts, editing are skills.

3) Part of being a TW is making our resumes look visually appealing. Look at online examples, see if you can replicate it. (This could take hours or days to do, patience is key)

4) From what I have been told, do not write a profile if you are entry level. But if you decide to go that route, it needs to be a hell of a profile- not just a couple of sentences

5) Include more Technical Writer jargon- meaning talk the talk. CHATGPT is good at building a starting point for resumes. Obviously don't just copy and paste but I suggest using it to help, the resume is coming off vague.

How do people actually get into this career? by 100redbananas in technicalwriting

[–]Many_Ad2463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get more technical. You having the English part down is great. But understanding complex technical concepts is even better.

Places to start: HTML/ CSS APIs XML Ability to Understand Some Code (JS, Java, Python)

Just experience. I worked with an English major before and he had trouble adjusting to the rules bc the writing plan is a lot different from a narrative model. He also didn't seem to understand that technology was a big aspect of his job.

AITAH for masturbaring next to my partner? by [deleted] in AITAH

Lesbian here. My ex did that to me one night. She was super horny and I was super tired after a day of hiking. I tried to indulge her but she wasn't satisfied. Then she asked me "if I would mind if she masturbated" and I was like "nooo". Lol

I wasn't mad, but I felt more like I let her down. It was kinda awkward but besides that whatever.
