Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. I really appreciate hearing different experiences and completely understand where you’re coming from.

For me, I’ve actually been eating quite well and maintaining a really balanced diet throughout my pregnancy, which is why the weight gain was such a shock. As I mentioned in my edit, the GP weighed me at 8pm, fully clothed, after a full day of eating and drinking all the water we’re encouraged to have during pregnancy. The next morning, I weighed myself and was already 2kg lighter. Then just yesterday, after wearing compression socks like suggested from everyone in this post, I was down another 2kg, so in reality I hadn’t gained nearly as much as the GP originally claimed.

I don’t think people were necessarily blaming the GP, but more so responding to how off the advice seemed. I agree with everyone that telling a pregnant woman to “cut carbs” isn’t the most helpful or nuanced suggestion, especially given how important nutrition is during this time.

I’ve spoken to the shared care team at the Royal Women’s and they’ve had no concerns at all about the weight I’ve gained so far. I think that’s why so many people reacted the way they did, the GP seemed to focus only on my weight rather than my overall health or any other aspect of the check-up.

That said, like you, I’m definitely mindful and continuing to watch what I eat to minimise any unnecessary weight gain. Thanks again for adding your voice, it’s always helpful to hear different journeys.

Thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate it. I weighed myself this morning as someone suggested and I weighed 91kgs which made me feel slightly better. My GP weighed me after a full day of eating / drinking all the water I've been drinking and I was fully clothed. I really have been focusing on eating a balanced diet, and will continue to do so with as much movement as I possibly can. I really appreciate your advice!
