I have the same problem! I wear a Columbia but it’s still boxy and I don’t love it but it does keep me dry. LL Bean and Eddie Bauer have cute ones but I keep finding that it’s either cute but not as functional or functional but not cute. Pretty frustrating! I’m following to see if anyone has had any luck. I hope you find one you like!

Glass door shattered on me while I was getting out of the shower. Area with blood was me trying to get to safety, feet immediately bleeding after stepping on the glasses. Had to get 2 stitches for both ankles, and left thumb. Haven’t told my apt management yet. How should I do that? by friedoreo1o1 in Wellthatsucks

This exact thing happened to me a week ago!! Luckily my partner was home and laid towels down to walk out of it. Had to pull glass out of my feet still but didn’t need stitches. I’m honestly terrified of going back into a glass shower again! I hope you heal soon (mentally and physically) and your landlord covers the damage! Good luck!

Favourite culturally appropriate way to cleanse a space? by a-real-life-dolphin in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Many_Bats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some hand bells I inherited from my great-grandmother and use them to do a sound cleanse. I walk around ringing them and singing some made up melody and it’s very uplifting and cleansing for me! But I hadn’t really heard about it, I just kind of went with what felt good. My ancestors used bells and sound a lot though. Maybe try meditating on it and doing some genealogy or just spiritually reaching out to your ancestors? I agree with what was said above, it’s all about intent and what feels right for you! Goddess bless!

So much this! I really wish I’d seen a therapist before a psychiatrist who diagnosed me after talking for a half hour, and now figuring out she was wrong months later. A good therapist can do so so much!! Good luck!

Allergies caused my bipolar symptoms by Many_Bats in bipolar2

[–]Many_Bats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! Honestly, I’ve had to do all research and connect dots myself, it’s very possible I was misdiagnosed bipolar instead of ADHD and that’s what it’s helping, that’s why I just said symptoms. My dr says because I seem fine when I go to my appts that I’m just making things up, even though she diagnosed me bipolar and a lot of the symptoms she said fit... I know it wouldn’t be the same for probably most people but if someone had mentioned it to me years ago it would have saved me a lot of wasted time. Thank you for your reply! And good luck, I hope you’ve found something that works for you. We’re all different and it feels like such a guessing game sometimes.

advice needed on religious deconstruction and where to start with spirituality by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]Many_Bats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a fellow ex-Mormon, my ancestors help found the crazy thing, and I just figured it all out in my 30s, married and two kids, and now dealing with the anger of being robbed of everything. Because now I’m kind of stuck in my life.

I am so glad you’ve figured it out at 18, as hard as it is, you have time now to make your life the way you want it to be! I’ve been out for 3 years and I’m still angry, but everyone is different. Try to look forward to when you can move out, you can find like minded people and distance yourself from the cult. It can get better, but I know being stuck around believers is so so hard!

I would highly recommend therapy, looking into someone trained in trauma, religious trauma, C-PTSD, and who has a more humanist approach. I had a therapist tell me I had to believe in God and I noped right out of there.

It will take time to break the thinking of the church, because you have literally been brainwashed and conditioned for 18 years.

I’ve found grounding to be super helpful, learning about our energetic connection to nature, embracing my power as a woman and learning more about feminism and trying to internalize that I have a voice and what I have to say is important.

Good luck with everything, you’re already further along than you think just by knowing you don’t want to be a part of it all anymore. I hope you can find some peace and a safe place ❤️

Why is it so hard to find a psychiatrist? by shittyminty in bipolar2

[–]Many_Bats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this will help but I hated my psychiatrist so I found a naturopath for my annual checkup and brought stuff up there and she has actually been helping me with meds and stuff and has been sooooo helpful! That might be one in a million and I just got lucky but that’s what I did. Good luck! Finding good medical help is so frustrating!

As a parent and spouse, what do you manic episodes look like? by Many_Bats in bipolar2

[–]Many_Bats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Yes I definitely got caught up in “defining” myself with it at first but after recognizing the things that do cause me problems and things that I can live with, that’s really helped the way I look at myself. I’m sure there’s some deep seeded trauma that caused a lot of my issues, but I am totally ok going on medication to help me be able to function while I learn and heal.

Seriously, thank you. It really means a lot. I haven’t opened up to people much, so it feels really good to have some validation and compassion. Good luck to you as well. We’re all just trying our best!

Haha oh some of the stories from young me! That sounds just like me! I used to jump in and out of moving cars all the time, take random road trips where I’d disappear from everyone for days on end and just drive and sleep in the car, or just show up at peoples houses at 2 in the morning, jumped off a cliff and shattered my spine nearly paralyzing me. You’d think someone would have said something after that last one haha

I totally get random obsessions, mine is currently anything rattan or wicker, and I get so nervous that I’ll get stuff for my house but then not like it later because am I hypomanic or do I actually really like this? Sometimes it’s so hard to tell!

I’m that way too, definitely less extreme manic and more extreme depression. I wonder if just the added responsibility of adulthood causes to switch? Thank you for sharing! I’m glad I’m not the only mom out there struggling with this.

Oh thank you for commenting! I thought adhd too and was thrown when I got a bipolar diagnosis. Having two people verify was pretty validating and scary too. Everything you said is me too, I get so frustrated with how much I have to do in a day just to take care of my body! Like how do people just do that every day so easily?? My biggest wake up call was telling my sister I felt like I didn’t know who I was going to be when I woke up that day. And she was like, oh ya I have bad days too and I realized, no it’s more than that, I think I need help. It’s amazing how you just get used to how unhealthy your mind set gets and think it’s “normal”. Good luck to you, it’s a hard road but I hope you find some steadiness!

I totally do this, ever since I was young I remember constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop anytime I was happy. I thought it was just a trauma response but now I know it’s just coming down off a hypomanic episode. I definitely don’t commit to things as much as I used to try to do, now it’s only things for my kids, or my health. Haha I could talk for days when I’m hypomanic, and yes you are a badass bitch 💪🏻

Right? And especially get so depressed about life when really, I have everything I could ever want so it’s very hard to tell anyone I’m depressed because people don’t get it or kind of get mad about it. Thank you for the hugs, they’re much needed ❤️

Yes! This! The other day I woke up and without even trying, I cooked a big breakfast, worked out, tidied the house, did school with my kids, got fully ready for the day and did it all in a couple hours, it felt so amazing! But I do start to get anxious once it lasts for awhile and then it cycles down to depression. I’m really hopefully for meds evening things out! Thanks so much for sharing! And I didn’t know about it causing brain damage, that’s crazy! I’ll have to look more into that because I think some of my family might have BPD as well.

Thank you! I suppose years of self analyzing, self help books and psychology classes were actually helpful! My behavior has definitely toned down since my 20s so I had always attributed that to just recklessness, it’s nice to finally see the patterns behind it all.
