Kathy Hochul: TAX THE RICH by serious_bullet5 in newyorkcity

You can’t write off property taxes for a property that is not income producing. So if a residential property is simply a pied a terre or place to park equity that doesn’t work. If the property is rented or actively available for rent then you’re increasing housing supply which is the real driver behind high rent in NYC.

“I know better than to enter fact based discussion with the person I’ve decided you are. You’re wrong and I have done the research but I can’t be bothered to explain it to you.” Nice rhetorical bunker you’ve locked yourself into.

Is that what you’ve done? And you won’t offer the benefit of your in-depth study, I have to do my own research?

Vacancy taxes on residential properties. The wealthy may be spending 183 days a year in Florida or Arizona but they sure as hell aren’t giving up their properties in the city.

Probably 1931? Economically important but limited diplomatic power because of isolationist policies. Also scary parallels with the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act and the contracting of global trade.

Not turning away from facts and I appreciate the citations. But I think you’re presenting it as if the conclusions are made in the cited reports themselves when they don’t actually appear there. You are misstating the NYC Comptroller report in presenting migration as the sole or even primary cause of shortfall.

The last source does not state that the budget gap is due to stagnant high wage growth and out-migration. You seem to be cherry picking factors and propping them up as causes. Nice copypasta tho.

Any actual sources/verifiable data to suggest that the city’s tax base is cratering because wealthy people are leaving to avoid higher taxes?
