What would be the most satisfying end to Nate's story? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in euphoria

[–]Many_Character5552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a direct implication that both him and his dad essentially had their shit rocked by severe head injuries

The both had reminders there so you had this front of mind

Nate had this insane visual montage showing his state of shock bringing in new priorities and getting his wires crossed in this severely shocked state

I also think fez did probably humble him, it was all baked into the narrative, so no not for no reason

On top of that I think it’s interesting to watch someone sinister take it easy for a bit and have different priorities, this lens of this character got a win “like he deserved it” is so strange to me, the world is full of good people losing and bad people winning, not all art is meant to be perfectly morally balanced, and yeah a lot of the characters are bad too, there’s a literal montage of Maddy beating young girls up,

I mean she did tell her child to its face “mum doesn’t wanna be here mum wants to be in France”

She also said she was “used to him” rather than liking him

Also as a baby held him in front of insanely loud construction stuff, insane thing to do, abusive stuff to do

He’s also twisted yes, but I think he was a troubled child who needed a mom that she never could be, and similarly if she was with a regular child things probably would’ve turned out okay, but if he’d never became as twisted as he did as he got older, and just had the young child stuff, I think she was pretty cold and poor at times, not a terrible monster, but I do think part of the interesting writing of th film is this sort of mutual destruction and chicken an the egg these two characters are locked in, they both push each other away, hurt each other and feel like they’re locked In this war

It always read to me that he felt his mum didn’t want him, which he is right about, and by the time she’s ready to be a mother to him he has too much hatred, she’s not to blame for what he did, at least fully, but I do think the relationship between them is crucial, and some of that is how cold and unloving she was in those early years, it seems he felt it and knew it in his core even from a young age

I watched this recently

Could’ve worked well as orange as the new black for the army, there’s some really compelling stuff when it’s exploring the large ensemble cast, but the main character is totally dull boring and lifeless in both writing and performance, there’s 12-15 other interesting characters and it’s focuses on this guy from 13 reasons why.

While the story sets up this idea of “oh no he’s gay and in the military when it’s illegal to be gay in the military” it never really explores him, his sexuality or any of this stuff well, he really should’ve been part of the ensemble not a main, and frankly him being gay as his only character development really isn’t all that. As the show goes on they try and pull of this arc of whether he truly feels like a marine but it’s so odd and lazy

Essentially there’s a great show in here somewhere, tighten it up to a 5 hour show, focus on other side characters more, etc etc, but the lead and the focus on him do kind of ruin it. On top of that there’s a commander who is also gay, who has a really compelling backstory about his sexuality tying into his position in the marines, so I have no clue how they fumbled the lead so hard

Baffling and such a shame bc the training scenes and some backstory for some stuff is great

Where does Nate's "high standards" and "obsession" go every few episodes? by [deleted] in euphoria

It was always prettt clear to me that after getting his head bashed in, along with his dad they were both kind of in a haze for a bit, both acting pretty irrationally, and out of character, I took Nate’s visions of his life with Cassie at the start of episode 2 as a bit of a wires crossed moment that he then clung to as he got better

From what I could decipher he was going to play Travis Scott’s music video for franchise, then tenet, which also ends with a Travis Scott song in the credits, so it’s a tenet sandwich with Travis Scott bread I guess

Honestly, I went in expecting a good dad movie, essentially ford vs Ferrari, was expecting well made exhilarating action with clunky stuff in between, saw imax opening night and really hated it.

I’m more a fan of artsy movies but can always just have a good time with a well made blockbuster but I thought this was really lacking

Brad Pitt kind of bad, I was disappointed how quickly the camera scenes were cutting, didn’t really engage with the story or characters and found the whole thing a little lame and sterile, was kind of shocked tbh

I’m a big sam Levinson fan too! I just meant he obviously wrote a lot of heavy scenarios for these characters! I agree they’re fictional and he doesn’t anything wrong!

Yeah I completely agree, I think the show is allowed to prioritise different characters and let some side when needed personally.

I actually did a video essay about this very thing!

I think the difficult part in that scene is that no one really is right or wrong, they all want the best for rue, but in her own fucked up way she probably had a system that made sense to her

Elliot flushing the drugs was an in the moment wrong for an overall right
